This book shares the stories of women who have overcome different types of trauma and disadvantage in their lives, which will be familiar to many. But they have all overcome their challenges to achieve successes that they may not have believed were possible.
I believe this book is a must-read for women who are ready to make the leap into something new. You will learn from the wisdom of amazing women who have made choices, overcome adversity and done things their way.
As beyond the stories, where each of us shares very openly and candidly our Turning Point, it is about our reactions; it is about the decisions we have made; and, it is about the actions that we took that define who we are, and, along the way, tremendously inspire and empower the people around us to know that no matter what happens, there is always a way to overcome it.
One of my favourite sections is the "Wisdom from along the way" one, where each of the authors shares their gold nuggets, learnings and empowering lessons, and when you multiply this section, by 25, you get 200+ shared wisdoms!!!
Note: having written the above review, one of the comments prompted me to edit it, and while I am not going to change any of the above, I'd like to add, in light of extra transparency, a couple of sentences. Yes, I know, I am one of the co-authors, and I agree, I cannot be neutral in my review; however, having written only 3.5% of the book, and discovered and read, as a reader, 96.5%, I felt that I was entitled to share my views on the entire book; I discovered and read, like a reader, 230 pages out of 238 pages, and felt it would be appropriate for me to review it. And, as you would have noticed, I also, from an integrity perspective, highlighted that I was one of the 25 authors in the first line in my review, so that, it would be very transparent to both readers and future readers.
Compiled by a woman who has challenged adversity and redefined herself, Kate Cobb, the women throughout these pages are like you and me. Life has thrown them a challenge and they made the choice whether to falter or walk tall. This book is about about finding strength when you have none, discovering yourself through adversity and coming out the other side, self aware, resilient and motivated.
This is not a book for entrepreneurial women, it's a book for anyone. Each of the 25 stories inspires and affirms the strength of the human spirit. I loved how the book is laid out; every writer follows the same format from background, the turning point itself and how they moved forward from it. It's full of great advice and resources. Read about Linda, Sarah and Jo along with all the others, who made the choice to reach for their dreams and believed in themselves. Bravo ladies, I'm humbled and inspired.
I found, "Turning Points: 25 inspiring stories from women entrepreneurs who turned their lives and their careers around," at just the perfect moment! I was going through one of the hardest times of my life, when I felt like everything was falling down around me, but as I am a great believer in the `law of attraction', I jumped at every positive opportunity that came my way. Fortunately Kate's book, "Turning Points," fell into my hands (never by accident!) and it helped me realise that from nothing, from complete despair, you can create your dreams.
The women in this book are truly amazing and inspiring. We have nothing to complain about, when we see what other women have endured and overcome, to follow their dreams, with their heads held high! Each of these beautiful women has fought for their core values, never given up in the face of adversity and followed their heart, in the face of fear! I really admire all of them for their courage and determination!
Through reading this book, I have since contacted several of the women in the book. My time with these women has moved me to tears but also enabled me to close two very difficult chapters in my life, which I know will lead to a magical new future. If you get the chance to speak with Kate, the editor, I highly recommend it. One phone call with her, gave me the strength and courage to negotiate my way out of a difficult legal battle and I won!
It is an original book of 25 women entrepreneurs that people relate to, it conveys the reason for writing these stories, it convinces others who have gone through, and are going through their story to read Turning Points?
How can 25 women entrepreneurs care? How can they hold empathy for others? When they have gone through many of life's rollercoasters? The stories in this book have so much, it is about the formation of the soul and it shows that everyone triumphs in the end!
These women show strenght and dignity, few readers would have the courage to 'come out' and share it with the world. BUT this book is to bring the story to you, to support you and to assist with writing your own turning point...
This is a great choice for an Friday/Sunday afternoon winter read!
