Maggie Hazeldean is killed in an arson attack, just days before her first appointment with psychologist Anna McColl...

My latest book: ‘The Woman who took in Parcels and opened one’ was published in April. Tired of taking in other people’s parcels, retired teacher, Jane, opens one - it is very badly packed - and her life is never the same again.

Another crime novel, The Sister’s Secret, is set in Bristol. “How well do you know her? Can you really trust her?”

Previous novels - Nobody’s Baby and The Gifted Child are also published by Accent Press. "Danger lurks where you least expect it"

Another book was 'Ursula's Arm', set in the 1930's. The story of a sexually frustrated wife who is sent to a psychoanalyst, initiated into the ideas of Marie Stopes, and has her life transformed.

I have also written crime books, featuring psychologist, Anna McColl.

Before that, I worked as a psychotherapist, and before that, as a teacher. I have two children and five grandchildren.

The storyline is interesting provided you can keep up with who is who. However I'd be a bit worried if Anna was my counsellor! The annoying part is the layout of text where one scene goes straight into another without either a line break or other indication of the change, e.g. one line Anna is in her office, on the next line she's in a street looking for somebody's house. Several times I had to go back to check I hadn't jumped a page!

First off I would like to thank netgalley and endeavour press for letting me have a copy to read and review.
This book is number 4 and I haven't read any of the others but I don't think that really mattered as I think this is a good standalone book as I didn't feel confused by anything. But the story had no drive or pace is the only way I can describe it, it took me over a week to finish it because I found it hard to read longer than a chapter due to it not really advancing anywhere and me thinking why?
The book starts off well Maggie a local woman has been killed in a house fire that has been caused by arson but by who, in comes Anna who is a local psychologist whom Maggie had a booked a session with but for obvious reasons couldn't attend finds it in herself to become obsessed with solving who the arsonist is. I thought there were slightly too many peripheral characters that took up meaningless time and had no real impact on the story. It was an ok read but I wouldn't read the others or the next.
