Our genuine Panama hat is hand woven and fairly traded in Ecuador. Made from natural "iraca" palm fibre which is far cooler and breathable than synthetic materials or cheap replicas.
Panama hats are made and worn all over Latin America, but the traditional Panama hat which has taken its name from the Panama canal, are made in Ecuador. Their flexibility and the fact that you can fold or roll them for traveling, makes them unique.
The sizes are in centimeters and based on the circumference of the head passing across the middle of the forehead. Our smallest is 54cm and the largest 62cm. As all our hats are handmade, the brim size varies slightly but it normally measures between 6 cm and 7.5cm. Please choose your size when placing your order - we will gladly exchange your hat for a different size if it turns out to be the wrong one.
You may also wish to consider our basic Tumi cardboard Panama travel tube or our Tumi balsa wood Panama travel box. If so, just search for them on Amazon.
Tumi was founded in 1978 promoting fair trade crafts and goods with Latin America, working closely with organisations such as Traidcraft and Oxfam Trading. Tumi has worked with our hat makers in Ecuador for many years and ensure that we pay a fair price (set by our partners), good working conditions and a sustainable future for our workers.
Please note that your hat will not be posted rolled up/folded. It will instead be posted in a box large enough to accommodate it without it being folded. The reason for this is that you should wear a Panama Hat for a few days/week before first rolling it. This allows the hat to adapt to the shape of your head and develop flexibility. Failure to do so will result in damage to the hat and shorten its lifespan.

Additionally the supplier provided an easy, clear process for returning the hat for any reason, which I needed to do as I had ordered the wrong size. The replacement came very rapidly.
I made the decision to progress from baseball hat to Panama (from boy to man) rather late in the preceding days, but after a short email communication delivery was made in time. The hat, true to its description folds up brilliantly and survived not only the ensuing 5 hour trip from Cardiff to Nottingham (not much sun at 5am to precipitate the donning of such a gentlemanly hat); but also the journey to Northampton and then a round trip to the Rolling Stones in Hyde Park.
Several months later and the hat still looks like it did when I eagerly unopened the package.
A great product from a great company. I would beseech everyone to get one (either make it a present to yourself, or put it on the Christmas list). My wife has already stolen mine several times, having been let down by cheap 'festival-esque' panama hats.
Measured my head and hat fits as expected. Quite white but I had noted this before buying and I am happy with this hat all round.
Just don't expect it to be cream/off white as many are. Bought the tube separately to pack this in as we are off to USA soon.
It doesn't arrive rolled up and you should wear to "break them in" before rolling.
