Terry likes to ground his fiction in historical fact though at times the facts seem unlikely. For example, football as described in Unseen Academicals could only exist on the Discworld right?

I recently rented a DVD called "Here's a Health to the Barley Mow: A Century of Folk Customs and Ancient Rural Games" that has old film of Shrove Tuesday football matches that might have been lifted straight off the pages of the book.
