About the Author
Dr. Philip Gyang Asante has a PhD in Biblical Studies, a Master's Degree in Business Administration, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. Deeply passionate about ending racism, he believes that the Church, the body of Christ, has an obligation to speak up against what he calls "one of the most divisive issues on the planet" Dr. Asante is the son of a black African father and a white English mother, and he was oblivious to the issues of race until he attended high school. Having experienced a great deal of racism himself, he can relate to the emotions and the injustice that this evil construct produces. Dr. Asante has been happily married for the past twenty-five years to a beautiful wife; he is also very blessed to have two wonderful grown up children.

I highly recommend this book because its message needs to be heard. He shows, for instance, how perceptions have been skewed eg not portraying the ancient Egyptians as dark-skinned Africans, children's books portraying Jesus Christ as if he were a European and omitting to point out the famous scientists, inventors, artists, etc who are Afro-Carribean.
He shows both how biblical passages have been misused to justify racism and the devastating impact of Darwinian thought on modern perceptions. He trumpets the fact that the Bible speaks of only one race: the human race. We are all descended from Adam and Eve! How ironic that modern science has just caught up with the fact that human beings all have common ancestory. He also proclaims the saving power of the Gospel. In Christ the bigot and the racist (whatever their colour) can know their sins forgiven because God so loved the whole world and Jesus lived and died to rescue us from sin and hell.
Dr. Asante has excellently dealt with the various nefarious aspects of racism from the Slave Trade through to Racial Segregation, Apartheid, the Ku Klux Klan and present day Institutional Racism.
It is a very readable book, and I recommend it.
The content of the book was different from what I expected.
I appreciate the efforts of the author, but the subject of "racism", is not addressed sufficiently in the chapters where tiles suggest making the reader expect a thorough discussion. In chapter I (roots of racism), for example, one would expect a discussion as the tile suggests. Sporadic scattering of thoughts here and there is the what one reads. Yes there are reference but the variety and strength of the sources cited aren't broad. This is a repeated feature throughout the book.
While I fully respect Philip's ambition and efforts to discuss this subject, it's clearly beyond the scope of the book.
In concurrence with Philip, one states that the term "racism" is an unscientific, social construct, that became very popularised since the late 1400s.
However, in disagreement with Philip, one argues that "Racism" is not a matter against which the "church" should teach its members and "the secular society". This is because "the church" IS a racialist community. And the "church" being a racialist community in turn comes from the "church's" document (what is called "the bible"). "The bible" is a racialist document which the "church" inherited and holds onto. In order to be able to elaborate what is meant by this, there is no space to discuss history here.Read more ›
This is a powerful analysis and will help ensure that Racism will be combatted in our lifetime. Reading intelligent books civilizes mankind and I urge every person to inform themselves fully on the disgraceful Racism episodes in world history. At times, we have demonstrated that mankind can be perceived, at its worst, as a low form of life but the author's humanity shines through on every page.
