What saddens me about this book is what is beginning to sadden me generally in respect of Calvinistic literature - and I have read quite a lot of it. First, there is a complete misrepresentation of opposing positions. This is a claim Calvinists usually make of others, but it becomes clear that they practice the same tactics. Second, there is a reliance on historical theology rather than scripture. I think I can say without fear of contradiction that more weight is placed on the views of Augustine and the Reformers than on the text of scripture. One or two points in the book are of value (particularly the early chapters on Substitutionary atonement etc) but the lack of true exegesis and the slavish dependence on historical positions rather than engagement with the Biblical text make the book unworthy of the price - probably unworthy of the paper it is written on. The title 'The Calvinists view of the Cross' would certainly have been more appropriate than 'The Truth of the Cross'.

Excellent summary of some of the key aspects of the work of the cross- was able to read through in one day but will need to revisit it to reinforce the deep understanding that is required on this matter- excellent read and one that all should read

This book takes an in depth look at the meaning of Jesus' death from both a biblical and theological perspective, and is very insightful. It is both comforting and challenging.

A lovely presentation of the cross which is the centre of the Christian message. A must read and highly recommended.
