Shed Seven - Truth Be Told - Cd

Amazon.co.uk

Truth Be Told is very much business as usual for Shed Seven. The turbulence of recent years hasn't gone unnoticed, though; they were dropped by their record label after 1999's best of compilation, Going for Gold and they lost writer/guitarist Paul Banks. While "Cry for Help" and "Never Felt So Cold" fit the mould of their enduring classics, "Going for Gold" and "Chasing Rainbows", there's a hard-bitten attitude to their stride. But the real bite's in Rick Witter's bitter and twisted lyrics: the caustic "If you don't like it you know what you can do" sentiments of soaring anthem "If the Music Don't Move Yer" are no doubt aimed squarely in the direction of one ex-guitarist and their former label. It's the same old, same old, but this time with conviction. It seems a little strife has done them the world of good. --Dan Gennoe

Before I bought this album I only had the greatest hits CD. I liked that so went to see them a couple of months ago and was pleasantly surprised!
This is a quality album. I havn't stopped listening to it. "Cry for help" is the current single and just wait till you hear "Step inside your love"!!! As it hits the bridge you won't believe the change as the new keyboard player really earns his corn.
I havn't got any of their other albums but anyone into this sort of stuff will love it. I do!

I eagily awaited this album release, folowing buying a 2 cd single cry for help months previously and the quality of the single and b tracks patches, sittin pretty and the seeker were high, so the expectation was there.
The album is in my view their best, the tracks are not beaten down your throat like a maximum high, but there is a vunrebality and torturous dlivery that is infectious.
Rick Witters amazing vocals leaves you wanting to play this album over and over again, songs like feathers, thinking again, to the wind, love equals and cry for help are lyricaly deep and impossible not to sing along to.
This album will capture your imagination and delve deep into your thoughts, so buy it you wont be disappointed

Being a big Shed 7 fan, i bought this album without having listened to any of the songs on it. After such great albums as 'Let It Ride' and 'Going For Gold' I thought that Rick and the lads would have penned some new melodies matching the quality of 'Chasing Rainbows' and 'The Heroes'.
Truth Be Told, this album isn't quite up to that standered. The album lacks a big hit that made the old albums must haves. Having said this, 'Truth Be Told' isn't all that bad. You get all the guitar riffs and up for it attitude that you would expect from a Sheds album, all with a more refined touch of better studio recording.
Several songs stand out more than others - 'Thinking Again' and 'Never felt So Cold' almost recreate the old Shed 7 Maximum High moments, but without the much needed roughness. The addition of two new band members seems to have dimmed the self confessed view of the band that they would take on the world...and win!
Not a classic, but worth a look if you enjoyed any of the other Sheds albums. To quote Rick in the opening song,"...The music doesn't move you like it should".
