Product Description

From the Back Cover

Because obeying God makes sense to us. In most cases, His laws appear reasonable and wise, and even when we don't want to obey them, we usually concede that they are good for us. But the circumstances we find ourselves in often defy explanation. When unexpected situations arise that appear unjust, irrational, or even dreadful, we feel confused and frustrated. And before long, we begin to doubt God's concern for us or His control over our lives.
Adversity is hard to endure and can even be harder to understand. If God were really in control, why would He allow the tragic auto accident or crucial job loss? How could He permit cancer in a loved one or the death of a child? Grappling with His concern for us we ask, "Why is God allowing this?" or "What have I done wrong?"
In an effort to strengthen his own trust in God during a time of adversity, Jerry Bridges began a lengthy Bible study on the topic of God's sovereignty. What he learned changed his life, and he now shares the fruit of that study with you in Trusting God. As you begin to explore the scope of God's power over nations, nature, and the detailed lives of individuals, you'll begin to acknowledge His loving control. And as you come to know Him better, you'll find yourself trusting Him more completely--even when life hurts. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Just to say this was the most helpful book I read when I first collapsed with ME. Just knowing that, although life was not going in a way that I would choose, God was nevertheless in control, he knew what he was doing and he still loved me. This book helped me learn to trust God day by day even when it hurt.

I picked this version of Trusting God up at a steal of a price- at the right time too. Having struggled for the past couple of years with various aspects of my relationship with God and what my faith means (and how it works), suddenly being thrust into what is a deceivingly deep study of the sovereignty of God was just what I needed. Bridges links various life experiences and examples from the Biblical text to the topic in such a way that you can't help feeling something of a kinship with those experiences. Personally I thought that issues such as unanswered prayers and "acts of God" were well handled and exhibited a very mature faith. I loved the book so much in fact that I will be purchasing paperback copies so that I can read it again and actually drill down into the topic some more. There is a certain deep rooted satisfaction and peace that comes from realising that God actually does control every aspect of our lives. Ponder that whilst you read the book- it is perhaps one of the most important books I have read in the last decade!

This book has gold dust on every page, gems of wisdom that will leave you marveling and rejoicing at what a great God we have. I cant recomend it highly enough. It has encouraged me so much to be more confident of who God is, how soverign He is, how amazing His love for us is and how He is still in control even when life seams to go wrong from our perspective. Read it for yourself and see its very readable, its definitely not heavey boring theology.

Like most books, some parts of Jerry Bridges’ Trusting God are good. Other parts not so well articulated. But in general, the subject is certainly worth reflecting on. Despite its flaws, it certainly achieves to get us interested not only in the issue of trust, but to ask ourselves the vital question: how much do I truly trust God? For those two reasons alone it is worth a look!

As usual, the sincerity and godly wisdom from Bridges will encourage those experiencing difficult circumstances and will cheer the heart. Well worth reading, then follow up with his Respectable Sins and The Transforming Power of the Gospel.

'Trusting God' by Jerry Bridges was clearly written and very helpful. This book would help anyone who struggled with believing that God is in Charge of ALL things, that He always has our ultimate good in mind, whatever the circumstances and to realise that God is all loving and all powerful, that His ways are not our ways, and that He will see us right through.
