Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) has a seemingly idyllic lifestyle: a secure job, a loving family and a peaceful home. Yet, unbeknownst to him, his entire existence has been one long TV series, the people around him Hollywood actors, the town a massive studio set, and the whole show orchestrated by a visionary director (Ed Harris).

This is a really great film from the 90's.
I wanted to watch it again and share the reality of us all having become Truman with a friend. The film is old yet so present. Now it's not just Truman that has no privacy but none of us do, there are computer farms operated by money worshippers who program the machines to come get us. Follow, track and distract. Hey, write a review why don't you. We might - allow it to appear on our site. If we do, we have just made another $100 worth of Intellectual Property, NOT yours but our reviews, someone will one day pay us hefty dollars for these thank you very much!

Isn't it strange that Amazon does not provide a link for members to see a list and perhaps read back all the reviews they have written. I am very concerned about the direction huge organisations like Amazon are taking the Internet. For someone with an average IQ, I find myself constantly fighting off the extraction and storage of my personal information, credit card details and by default accepting to use a specific card for all transactions... Why is it so difficult for these organisations to understand No. I am NOT in. Go away and don't ask me again!!!!

So. Trying to stay away from the BBC and allowing these organisations to interfere with what is my 'fundamental right to receive information' I do not watch live TV. Missed most of England games and so much more because I am not obedient to refuse to pay or fund the BBC..

Do you know what? I have probably bought this film on VHS or DVD in the 90's and since they are continuously changing the media, not the films but the storage media that we're served these same old dead-horses. So much fuss and law to protect Artists DM rights. There is little by way of protecting consumers,

Anyway. I believe I have an average IQ and clearly an aversion to being left like a raped victim after each transaction. On this occasion, we wanted to watch Jim Carrey in this great classic. Netflix threw so many cob webbed twenty thirty year old films but no Truman Show.. I came over to Amazon to just download and watch the film. Somehow, I not only paid for the film but I have also been charged £39.99 for Student Prime account. I am NOT a student. I did not enter my card details during this check-out - I'd frigging remember if I was knowingly subscribing to ANYTHING!!! yet there are two entries in my bank statement from this visit to Amazon for the hire of the video and now some subscription fee of £39.99.

I now have to spend Saturday afternoon studying hundreds of telephone-number-dodging pages here on Amazon to end this charade and subscription. Even if I can't get a refund I want the account and further direct debits to be terminated now! I do not need another 'thing' that I must remember in 12 months time to avoid a renewal charge.

I am so angry with the way we are flooded with so much mis-information - adverts, offers, lies and more lies, when it is clear what buttons we have clicked to get there pressing clearly LABELLED buttons (designed by them) to state exactly what we do want or are looking for.....

And when you turn up the security settings on your browser, things simply stop working altogether!!! Of course you have options. You click one button to accept access to your DNA and if you don't there are 500 buttons which you have to opt out of individually. And that's so that you can grab something and head to the checkouts where you will be harassed some more.

So. I now have a Student Prime account!! I don't know what to do with it. Have paid for the film I wanted and watched it. What exactly is it that makes you thing I want a long term relationship, considering that I have steered clearly away from a 1001 offers you have invaded my screen with - yet somehow the system has signed me up with a Prime account. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT. AAAAAAARARRRRRRRRRRHHHH!!!

I've had a quick look and it is not easy to divorce this subscription. And whilst I would be better off allowing Amazon snatch £40 from me this way - I imagine the T&Cs that I definitely would have read if I had asked for or even knew I was subscribing to that ever this god damn rip off scheme is.

I will get tot he bottom of this but if Amazon is reading this, you should note that I have removed all three of my credit cards from your systems and I would be shouting at members of your staff about this if they had the courage to appear on the telephone. I totally resent every moment of my life that is wasted through pre-emptive systems engineers and businessmen devising schemes to cheat and steal from the very people who put them in their thrones.

Summmary: The film is very good. Jim Carey and all supporting actors convey how Truman (like us as consumers) doesn't expect to be in the situation he is, surely if he was, his wife, best friend or postman might feel for him and say something. Just like you expect Amazon, eBay, Microsoft, Google or someone to be transprent and respect your choices. These (American) companies need better regulation and someone please invent the OpenAmazon already!

Tip. Before buying a virtual seat for 30days at Amazon to watch this or any film from this era, I recommed you stop at your local second hand shop or two on your high street, where you might find a copy in the media section for 50p. Then you can watch it for longer than the 30 days Amazon give you after which it becomes a puff cloud...

...but one star for the Blu ray. The sound - volume - is insanely low and the volume needs to be turned right up on your TV. This is such a classic film and needs the remastering treatment!

I wonder if the original makers had any idea what a cult film this would become. If you haven't seen it then you must as part of your cultural education. If you have seen it, then it's worth having a copy in your library.
