I chose to trust the reviews of the users (apparently) more experienced with chainsaws. This proved a good decision.

After a couple of months use around our 3-acre woodland site the Raptor has already become a trusty partner. I would strongly recommend the version with the Oregon blade and chain and the Walbro carburetor. I chose the 20" blade with 52cc engine. My guess is that the 16" version is just as good.

However, this is a fairly eccentric power tool (in and endearing way). As mentioned by others there are a few quirks. But none of these detract from the performance or usability once you are aware of them (and other brand-name saws certainly have their weak points too).

Fuel cap/plug: The seating is a bit sketchy. Make sure both the seat on the body of the saw and the rubber washer on the plug are clean when closing. Do not over tighten. There is a slight over-centre feel in the final 1/4 rotation. Go just past this and then a fraction more.

Oil cap plug: This has a better seal and fit, but compared with some other brand-name saws both the fuel and oil plugs need just a bit of care and attention. Not a problem at all if you are aware of it.

Chain cover: When replacing this it is easy to get the black flexible plastic seal at the rear of the cover slightly out of line. It then kinks and gets bent out, preventing the cover sitting flush. Just keep your eye on this when closing and keep the cover pushed in place while tightening the rear bolt first. If it does kink just remove the cover and bend it back.

Starting is fairly easy (for a chain saw this size): DO follow the cold-start instructions in the handbook: Lock throttle in the 20% position. Pull out the choke knob. Chain brake ON (basic safety).

Having previously owned a 42 cc 16" blade McCulloch (stolen from a trailer, along with the damned trailer) and having long held aspirations for a Stihl, I bought this item with not a few reservations, mindful that in these impoverished and straitened times, needs must. Consequently I felt my initial misgivings were well founded when on opening the box I was confronted by a paucity of assembly instructions along with the clearly DIY assembly component parts for a not entirely well-finished chainsaw. Notwithstanding this ominous introduction to my latest gardening acquistion, I soldiered on. A familiarity with the inner workings of my previous chainsaw considerably helped me to assemble the jumble of parts I was presented with in the right order; the most infuriating being the way-off-mark chain-tensioner screw. That said, my initial reservations have all proven to have been wildly misplaced however; for what an absolute beauty this little machine has turned out to be. The first and most pressing task that I had to tackle with my new companion was a stretch of over 60' of ridiculously overgrown conifer trees which was screaming out for a much-needed heavy pruning. I am overjoyed to be able to report that this rough little diamond of a machine faultlessly worked its way along this great swathe of foliage with nary a stutter, save from the odd occasion when I've been a bit over-zealous in my technique and the chain has jumped off the guard. Regardless of cutting main trunks or wispy little branches, this saw has coped with it all.Read more ›

Saw has worked well so far but I would feel more secure as regards future spares if it had a make on it.

Having scoured the net for a chainsaw this one seemed the best deal, and it is. This superb chainsaw will cut down trees with ease. Very powerful motor for the weight and it feels realiable with the quality orgeon chain & bar. Its half the price of a well known brand and easy to set up. goes through wood like a knife through butter.
Powerful for heavy duty or cutting small logs.
Rugged and versatile & the price says it all.

I have had a few chainsaws over the years and not until now have I come across one that is such good value - used mine so far about 4 times since Christmas and cannot believe how well it performs - easily comparable to machines 5 or 6 times the price...!!!..thoroughly recommended. Great delivery times from the supplier and courier too - ordered it a bit late before Christmas - arrived Christmas Eve morning......!

I needed a good quality saw at a reasonable price, and so i took a chance on the "Raptore52". It wasnt a brand name but the reviews were promising and the price was excellent. I have to say the saw is really good, made light work of some old trees in my field. My only gripe would be the instruction manual, its not very clear and the booklet is a collection of photocopies and the clarity is not the best. You do not need to be a rocket scientist but the instructions do leave you doubting yourself. Overall great bit of kit!!
