"Frenetic page-turning tension and mystery... Sometimes nasty, sometimes funny, sometimes knowing in its comment about the rampant misogyny that pervades the underworld. It's a great read, dark and filled with pace." (Nikesh Shukla We Love This Book)
"Seamy, tough and reeking with authenticity, it's grimly fascinating." (Deirdre O'Brien Sunday Mirror)
"Ultra-noir… depicts the criminal underbelly of Manchester with force and style. Good story, superior characterisation, convincingly bleak atmosphere." (Marcel Berlins The Times)
"Exhilarating prose, gut-wrenching violence and plenty of soul in dystopian Manchester." (Cath Staincliffe)
"It shines a light on Manchester’s violent underworld, as a nightclub owner finds himself dragged into ever-more-depraved places amid a backdrop of murders." (Mr Hyde)
Does for low-life Manchester what Trainspotting did for Leith.See all Product description

The third book about Henry Bane night club manager, lover, thug, not quite gangster nor police informant but with a tarnished heart of gold. The story is about his son and his girlfriend mixed with her mother and dying gangster father, the latter's brother and wife, an illegal fight involving Bane's best mate and his near term pregnant "wife", the hi-jacking of money, various beatings, a runaway teenager and her parents and more everything happening over Christmas and New Year 1999 in Manchester with the underlying tale of a serial killer. Written in colloquial language and very spare with descriptions it can be difficult to follow and it does not turn out too well, as the others did not, for our hero. Loved it.
