Conditions tested in: My Vauxhall Vectra in metallic red, professionally cleaned and valeted before a camping trip in France and Spain where it encountered various kinds of weather from extreme thunderstorms to arrid and hot conditions in the hills and coast of Catalonia. When I got home I used these in the Triplewax Water Fed Brush that attaches to the hose pipe, to clean off the dust and dirt of the road. The state the car was in -- pretty mucky, but due to frequent douches from the weather pixies, still not too bad (number plates still clearly readable).

In order to get any decent amount of suds going, I had to put 4 or 5 sticks in the brush. Each lot of sticks only lasted not quite long enough to finish one side of the car. Scrubbing in circular, horizontal and vertical motions, by the time I'd been round the car once I could see on the side that was now drying that I'd have to go over it again. It actually took me three goings over and the entire pack of soap sticks before it stopped showing up dirty when the water ran off.

To finish cleaning it to the stage where you can start waxing and touching up the minor scratches, I had to resort to going out to buy another bottle of shampoo to use with microfibre mittens, which are what I've used previously and I have to say, do the job much better. I estimate that for the cost of this pack of soap sticks plus the huge amount of water that the brush goes through (not having a flow control facility) I probably spent more than it would've cost to just take it to the car wash, for not as good a result. I don't think I'll bother buying them again.

I bought this item to use with my recently acquired Hozelock Jet Brush, and found them to be an exceptionally good buy, not only for cleaning the paintwork of my car but leaving it with a sparkling showroom shine.

Interesting there are quite a few negative reviews about these sticks. Sure, you need to squeeze about 5 into your hose-brush to wash the car but they do last for the whole car (mine's an small SUV in case you're wondering). The good bit is that they don't foam up too much either like you get with liquid shampoos, buckets and sponges, so you're not forever rinsing off with the hose afterwards. Compared to the local drive-through car wash they offer good value. Plus an extra benefit is that I use them to wash the house outside windows & UPVC frames and they come up gleaming as well. 5 stars from me.

Soap sticks are hard to find in other stores, but found them easily with Amazon. They are very useful for washing the car and will wash two cars with one stick. They are not cheap so use sparingly.

Save your money. Absolutely useless. Stick with a bucket of water and car shampoo. I do understand that you need about ten sticks for it to work, but a single stick lasts, literally, 5 seconds.

I have used these for years and found them easy and effective cleaning the car. As with any soaps, best kept very dry before use, as they last longer in the brush.
