In this story it is a nine year girl, Rosie, who is the focus of the story which I set in a small Cornish fishing village (with a tourist season). The girl's mother (the father has left home) finds herself in the same dilemma: how to raise $150,000 or whatever fit costs to take Rosie to the USA for this new treatment which is not available in this country.
It is a very harrowing story in parts and also an inspiring one.
As for the story itself it meets all the requirements of serials published in The People's Friend (the Woman's Magazine first published inn 1869).
