Product description

A highly efficient Outdoor camping kit which is suitable for solo campers, Trekkers, Hikers, Kayakers, Backpackers, Bikers, and all outdoors enthusiasts who need to keep their pack light. A great addition to your Car Camping gear and a vital item for a Wilderness Survival Kit or Disaster kit. This lightweight aluminum kettle + Stainless Steel cook set + Steel Pot Support all fit neatly together into their own drawstring carrying bag which can be put into or carried hanging from a Rucksack or Backpack. As there is no need to carry fuel, this camping equipment 'kit' will keep your pack light and save you money at the same time - never worry about running out of fuel again! Using any naturally occuring solid fuel (sticks, pine cones, dry camel dung! etc.) this unit will operate perfectly well, even in the most extreme weather conditions or terrain. The Kettle brings 2 Mugs of water to a rolling boil within a matter of minutes while you reheat or cook food at the same time using the cook set on the pot-support over the chimney of the kettle. In this way, a very small amount of fuel will both boil your water and cook your meal at the same time! Note: the Pot-Support is suitable for use with quick cooking items such as Soup, Boil-in-the-bag, re-hydrating food, reheating etc. If more hot water is required (this kettle will easily boil water quickly for a party of 4-6 people), simply refill the kettle and place it back on the fire base and refuel the chimney again. The kettle will be boiled again within a matter of minutes where water can be used for more hot drinks, boil-in-the-bag, bathing, washing up, etc. Fire Base & Drawstring carrying bag are included as standard with each kettle. Diameter 14cm / 5.5 inches Item Weight 1.63lb / 0.76kg Product Capacity 17.6oz (UK) / 0.5 ltr Kettle Height 27cm / 10.6 inches (packed) Diameter 14cm / 5.5 inches

I have three Kelly Kettles which I use under different circumstances, the large, the medium and this small, one pint kettle. I would award both the large and the small Kelly Kettles 5 stars. The large is more suited to permanent locations or for using from mobile transportation and when larger quantities of water are required, the 1 pint kettle is small and light enough to carry around on a back-pack but can provide adequate hot water for most requirements. It is easy to refill and continue heating water on an already kindled base.

The ratio of the height to the diameter of both the small and the large kettles creates an ideal "draw" of air to give good fuel combustion. I cannot say that of the medium, more squat, version. I have no problem with these aluminium kettles. Aluminium I consider to be the most suitable material to use for heating water.

The 1 pint Kelly Kettle is a very convenient and no nonsense product!

Just the job if you don't mind smelling of smoke. Boils water quickly. I use short lengths of twisted newspaper for fuel which is reasonably smoke free and light enough to carry. One medium size food bag filled with paper twists will boil water for four mugs of tea. Teabags, dried milk, sweetener, and flint fire starter with some cotton wool in your pocket and Welsh/Irish water from a lake or stream will produce arguably the best cuppa in the world.

The Kelley Kettle was described as containing one pint of water but in reality it contains only 0.75 of a pint. Other than that the product is great, but it should be described accurately and I will be contacting the seller about it. If I had been told it was only 0.75 pint I would have purchased the larger kettle.

By Mister G HALL OF FAMETOP 10 REVIEWER on 10 Sept. 2014
(I have posted a version of this review under both the aluminium and stainless steel version - which Amazon allows - in case someone might find it useful and otherwise miss it)

I use this small version of the Kelly Kettle when out walking, or whenever weight and size are an issue. I find it useful not just for making boiling water - I use it to sterilise water too. I also have the large size for when I am not out walking, when size is not an issue. Incidentally, I bought the stainless steel version.

The small size is not an issue as I just refill it, and it boils faster the second time around.

The Kelly Kettle is a stunning piece on engineering - simple and terribly effective. It creates a jet of air which enters the base of the Kettle and shoots out of the top, fuelling the fire. You start a tiny fire in the fire pit, put the Kettle on top of it, and then add sticks through the hole in the top. The fire burns far faster than an open fire, and boils water ridiculously quickly.

If using a gas cooker, you would need a cooker, gas cylinder and a kettle or something to boil the water in. The Kelly Kettle comprises all three. And there is something appealing about finding the fuel for yourself - foraging, and not having to carry the fuel.

The, err, burning question is "stainless steel or aluminium?". Aluminium has a far lower melting point than stainless steel - 660 degrees C and approximately 1300 degrees C respectively. You'll notice the difference if (when) you make a mistake with it, such as reboiling a partially full kettle thinking you refilled it when you didn't. If full, the water means the metal will never get above 100 degrees C (try boiling water in a paper cup over a fire - you can do it).

Its official in my opinion the Kelly kettle is amazing, I bought from Amazon the scout version which in some respects was a mistake for me as I mainly require It for hiking, and as I have the stainless one it is a tad heavy and on the large size - so I am going to get the small one pint version too - the other unit will be great for camping and taking away in the boot of the car which we do do with it..
I have to say though I found the cooking kit / pot support to be a bit of a faff - if you want to cook on it get yourself a single egg non-stick frying pan and cook straight on top of the fire, it works great and it will save you money - the kettle works so well because of the draw effect just like a chimney, once you fit the pot support you lose this draw and the fire dies back..
My tips for use--- if you look on Utube there are a plethora of folk on their telling you it will burn anything including damp twigs and pine cones and it will but again it's a big faff to get it to burn lean .. I have used my kettle extensively and I use this technique.
For one boil up all you need is to carry a dozen very small split dry sticks made like a pyre over loosely crumpled newspaper put the kettle together then light it , the draw is instant that way.
I also carry a length of light weight 8mm id air hose 14" long which I use to blow down gently and send a draught in through the hole on the bottom of the fire base ( if its windy just face the hole towards the wind and let nature sort it for you ... once you have it running then you can forage around like Ray Mears and drop stuff down the chimney .
Please do note pine cones do burn well but only if tinder dry - use wet or damp ones and all you will do is send impressive smoke signals.
