So, with tens of thousands of mediocre CDs out there why is this brilliant album still deleted? Regardless of any thing else, the Traveling Wilbury's line up of George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison & Jeff Lynne made the group a major musical landmark. And, unlike most similarly "stellar" combinations, this one really worked. With no name checks and no individual writing credits anywhere in sight they clearly meant business in integrating themselves into a genuine "group" structure, and it shows because they play & sing as a tight, wholly complementary unit. But above all, what makes their first album so good is the sheer quality of its songs. With only a couple of exceptions they lay down a superb set of "good time" rock music that really does bring out the best in the huge array of talent on offer, including the quite wonderful "Handle with Care", "End of the Line" & "Not Alone Anymore".

Rarely heard on the radio, currently only available from selected overseas dealers and standing, as I write, at number 160,861 in Amazon.co.uk's sales rankings this is quite simply one of the best albums from the 1980's. Find it, buy it and then ponder the reasons for such an extraordinary situation...

This classic rock band from the late 80s may not be well known these days. And their albums are not sold in your local megastore anymore, but if you do manage to come across a copy of this or anything else from them..........just buy it.
This band consists of some of the greatest music heroes of our generation. George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were all firm friends, and this album demonstrates the true greatness of their combined talents.
This album is the first of two official platinum volumes to be released from this group (the second being released after Roy Orbisons death) and includes early Wilburys hits like 'Handle With Care' and 'End Of The Line'.
If you choose to buy it, don't hesitate. In 20 years time, when all of the members are dead, perhaps they will be remembered for their brief moment in history as the 'Travelling Wilburys'.

This is a feel-good album of truly epic proportions. A supergroup in every sense of the word. Above all you can tell that the artistes are enjoying every second and not taking themselves at all seriously. Every track exudes an utterly brilliant atmosphere and makes you long to be a part of it. Fabulously addictive as a mood lifter - I forget what I was angry/sad about as soon as I hear the first few beats. Heaps of fun in the lyrics - very rare to find these days. Go for it, you'll wonder how you lived without it!

So you like listening to some of the sixties/seventies greatest rock leviathons. You've bought the albums of Dylan, Petty, Beck, Harrison & Orbison, but you want more.
Well this eighties super group combine the musical tastes of all these guys from growling vocals of Dylan to the heart wrenching ballads of Orbison.
The best track has to be "Tweeter & the Monkey Man". The story of two thugs that sell drugs for cash then escape across the state border with the sister of the undercover cop whose chasing them. The song has everything.
Other classics include Roy's vocals on "You're Not Alone Anymore" and some natty George Harrison guitar licks throughout.
Track for track I'd say this is one of the best albums I ever bought.
The real question is why don't Amazon sell the other volumes?

I first bought this album when it came out , and fell in love immediately with every track. The sheer genius of all these legends of rock/pop/folk shines through on each song , and converted me to Dylan and Petty after I had deliberately kept them at arms lenght. And so to the track listing. The single that started it all off " Handle me with care" is a good old fasioned sing along song from the Beatles heyday, easy to get along lyrics , catchy tune , and all members of the band getting in on the act somewhere. Dirty World is a fun ditty , and Rattled is pure rockabilly by Jeff Lynne - lovely.Last Night is a week track , but side one is rescued from the fire by the best song on the album , and shows us that Roy BIG O is more than just a sixties relic. This mans voice is the dogs....,every note is perfect and the song is just right for the man.Congratulations is a slow track and is not one of the best on the set , but again spirits are sent soaring with Heading for the light , showing George at his post Beatle best. Margarita is a team effort which works perfectly, and Tweeter is one of those songs that you hate the first twenty plays , and then you realise it is in your brain fir the duration. And so to the last track , and a fitting epitaph for the BIG O who died soon after this albums release. I cannot hear this song without a tear forming for one of the truly great singers of all time.An album of sheeeeer brilliennce.....all in all its pretty damned good. I recommend you search high and low for a copy of this classic , and never let it out of your sight. Songs like these only come along once in a lifetime.SHEER BLOODY MAGIC.

It does not always work, putting talented artists,(in their own right), together. This is one of those cases that it certainly does. It is rare to buy an album and like every track. I have a fairly large CD collection and I rate this album at the top of the pile.
