Great Toy, requires a degree in plastic robot origami.
(great granddad available for rent if required)
It is easy to manipulate, seems quite sturdy and having the trailer complete means it really does look like Optimus the Truck when not being transformed (which has the added advantage of there being no 'extra' parts to get lost under the sofa or swallowed by the vacuum - a mum's worst nightmare).
Overall my son is really pleased, having wanted one for years. The age range states from 5yrs old but it would be tricky to transform for small fingers and I personally think that 5 is quite young for this toy.
My younger son (nearly 9 yrs old) is now desperate for Bumble Bee so hope that performs as well as Optimus Prime!!
The wings with the wheels are prone to detach. This may be a design feature to stop them actually breaking but it is still annoying.
The robot mode without the trailer weapons platform is terrible. The arms look bad because there is nothing to transform the front of the truck. you are left with two parts of the front end which are chunky and annoying. Also the feet are not movable so you are limited in the way of poses. Also there are shoulder flaps that work for the ultimate version but not the robot on it's own. They also look bad.
My biggest problem is if you, like i have, collected the leader class DOTM figures you will be disappointed that the robot mode is not to scale with sentinel, ironhide and bumblebee.
There are many problems with this toy but i still think it is fantastic, if only for a display piece because of how limited in moveability the figure is both in ultimate and robot mode.
If you really want this, try not to spend over £90...

Fab model. My son has spent hours transforming this and it still has pride of place in his bedroom. Great for Transformers fans.Published on 31 Dec. 2013 by Ferret
My 6yr old son loves it, I think it was a bit pricey though for what it is. Bit complicated for adults, let alone a child.Published on 3 May 2013 by teresa rigby
This takes an adult about an hour to 'transform' so I'm not sure what Hasbro are thinking releasing this to the kids market.Published on 9 Jan. 2013 by Smythee
Great toy but rather difficult for a 8 year old to put together yet the instructions say from age 5 brilliant when you finally get it together thoughPublished on 20 May 2012 by Amazon Customer
The transformation was a bit difficult, compared to a previous version of Optimus prime, the other one was much stronger and much heavier, but at the end we got it... Read morePublished on 17 Jan. 2012 by Mariló
