Faster than my 600X Transcend cards
on 26 June 2013
Not too much to say about this card, except that it is definitely faster than the two Transcend 600x cards I've been using in my 7D.
So it gets five stars. I don't give such high marks very often but can't see any reason to be less generous with this product.
My rating of this, as I've no lab gear to do it with, is based on everyday-life measuring of the clearance time of the camera's buffer when running at 8FPS, recording full size .CR2 files.
The two slower cards clear in 7-8 seconds.
This 1000x card clears the buffer in 5 seconds.
Which may not sound like much, but if you're needing to shoot in a pressure situation and your camera is slower than ideal then you miss shots.
So - if you are shooting fast stuff, unrepeatable stuff, whether motor sport, team sport, or birds in flight then I'd pay the extra again to have a superfast card like this one as my mainstay.
I've read that 600x cards are all that a 7d needs to exploit its transfer speed capability to the most - yet this one seems to beat those.
If you shoot portraits and other slow stuff like landscapes, then cards like this are a silly waste of money for you. My 5d2 is far less speedy than the 7d, so I use slow cards in it.
And what else to report? I've yet to have a CF card fail or go corrupt on me, perhaps it's my habit of reformatting them every time files are cleared off them, giving fragmentation no chance to accumulate?
And this one so far has been no less reliable.
