Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo - enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment - but in actuality, she's kind of in a rut. Amy Schumer wrote and starred in the title role. Her movie personality is very much like her onstage stand up persona. If you have seen her just a few times, the sexual humor and jokes will seem stale. I laughed really hard the first time I heard them. Messed up by her absentee father as a child, Amy has trouble with long term relationships (as measured with a watch and not a calender) which leads to many sexual role reversal scenes that seem artificial especially the one with LeBron James, who like Amy played himself. As a writer, Amy meets Dr. Aaron Connors (Bill Hader with nerd glasses), the premier sports doctor and a man who is basically too good for her. There are things going on with her sister, father etc.

I did enjoy the Marv Albert scene. Tilda Swinton was great. I am not partial to successful director/producer Judd Apatow as is the general population. I thought his influence turned what could have been a classic into one we will forget..."No not 'Bridesmaid', that other one...you know, the one with the chunky blonde in it." I am just kidding Amy, I think you're great and I know the Hebrew alphabet. ;) The film had some really good scenes and a few that didn't work.

3 1/2 stars.

For people who have never seen Amy Schumer, you are in for a real treat...or not.

Guide: F-word, lots of sex, male hard body butts (John Cena).

The rom-com. Like so many genres and sub-genres, it has been rinsed more times than an old dishcloth with it's tired formula of: boy doesn't want relationship, girl wants relationship with prince charming; Boy meets girl, they fall in love; Boy messes up, boy begs for girls forgiveness; Girl forgives boy and they live happily ever after. Trainwreck takes this formula and flips it on it's head.

Judd Apatow has been been the man behind most of the funniest and most successful mainstream comedy films of the last 10-15 years. Whether it has been  writing, producing, or directing and sometimes a combo of the three, Apatow has had he's fingerprints on it. In recent years, he and his fellow 'frat packs/Apatow clan' have moved away from one another to focus on individual projects. Here in Trainwreck he puts he's stamp on the material with the usual Apatow style, but it is very much Schumer's vision.

Amy Schumer's material like so many other comedians comes from a personal place. For Trainwreck, she wrote the script and her character is even called Amy. She flips the rom-com formula and even the traditional Apatow lead on it's head. Here Amy is the one who doesn't want a serious relationship and wants to just have causal meanlingless relationships. She's a real human being, flaws and all, but she's funny and relatable. It helps that Amy is basically playing herself, not to take credit away from her.

That's what's so great about Apatow and Schumer's voice; it's that everyman, or everywoman quality that draws us in. Yes they leave us in stiches of laugther, but we also connect with them and that's why the two work so fell together in this film.

Writer Amy has lived a carefree life without commitment for years going from one man to the next but when she meets a sports doctor she starts to realise that she might have to change her ways. The romcom has been slated for years mostly by males for being dull, predictable and not funny and while you can see the plot coming a mile away like most romcoms, the usual formula is turned upside down and made fresh mostly thanks to writer and star Amy Schumer. It does tend to drag in places feeling a bit too long but it is very funny with some gross out humour and some very good performances. Amy Schumer is excellent as the unlikeable at least at first Amy who warms up once she meets a sports doctor who she is doing an article about and it's a good performance from Bill Hader and yes you do actually start to root for the couple and the film makes you laugh more than any romcom has done in years. It's not classic comedy, it's not perfect but it is fun and a breath of fresh air in a world of stale, unfunny romcoms.

I had big hopes for this comedy that follows a woman interested in one night stands but not relationships,then of course the ideal man comes along and all that.
If only there were a lot more funny moments instead of just the occasional funny moment. Amy Schumer is fine but not brilliant in my opinion,sorry. The surprising actor of the movie is wrestler John Cena who is actually very funny and in a way you've never seen him before,i've now seen way more than i wanted of him and his bottom. I get this film relies on a tale of morals and all that but it just didn't deliver in my view. I got bored in about an hour,knowing i was only half way through,well i made it but can understand why so many hated this. It isn't as funny as it desperately tries to be,or it is just not my kind of funny for the most part. So maybe not a complete trainwreck of a movie,but i am being generous by giving this 3 stars,maybe i am in too good of a mood. No thanks to this movie though.
