This book is a treasure for those studying or just interested in deepening their understanding of Aikido, the art of peace. The photographs draw you into the heart of the great master and founder of aikido and reveal his true nature through this visual journey.
A bio of the Founder of Aikido with translated poems by the Master; good reading and very informative. I keep looking at those pictures over and over again! This is in my opinion the best collection of Photos of Morihei Ueshiba that has ever been published. A must for every serious Aikido student and Martial Art Historian. Great pictures, great text, great calligraphy - GREAT BOOK.
This is a book of photos of Ueshiba doing techniques. Many beautiful shots illustrating what a fantastic posture he had. Not at all useful for learning aikido, but if you have been practising for a while you'll find this book really beautiful. Unfortuantely there hasn't been proper acknowledgement of people that actually took the photos, but nonetheless, a good buy as a coffee table book. I still flick through it just to see how relaxed I SHOULD be looking whilst doing aikido. You really get an impression of the power, simplicity and elegance of Ueshibas aikido. So why only 4 stars? Well, because it won't appeal to non-aikidoka, those who wish to learn technique, and maybe when you first get it you'll think it was too expensive for what it is (though I continue to look at it more than any other of my aikido books!). Unlike books like 'Budo' the photos aren't set up to specifically illustrate technque, and therefore show the real flow much better.
Straight from the master. It doesn't get better than this. An outstanding book that gives you the background for learning Aikido. This book can save you many hours of dojo time in your advancement through Aikido.
