I was recently given this book as a gift and have since donated it to a charity shop! It's a big disappointment! Nothing more than a poor quality reprint of a book first published in 1999, with absolutely nothing new. Does not come even close to the classic books on the subject.
Chapter One is a very short and incomplete 'history' of the herring, as if traditional fishing boats of Britain and Ireland never caught anything else!!!
The numerous line drawings are of poor quality and are, in many respects, a complete waste of space, whilst many of the photos are badly reproduced. There are a few well-reproduced colour photos of preserved boats, though even these show that most of the originals may have been over-exposed!
If you have the first edition there's no need to buy this reprint. If you have any of the true classics on the subject, you won't even need the first edition!

A disappointing book. Reprint of another book. But full of inaccurate details. Most of all telling people the grace darling boat resides in Redcar. And getting a number of names wrong regarding boats. I wouldn't waste my money on this.
