The inspirational inside story of the 2018 Tour de France from Geraint Thomas, the first Welshman and third Brit ever to win the Tour
About the Author
Geraint Thomas MBE is the winner of the 2018 Tour de France, a double Olympic gold medallist and multiple world champion who has been an indispensable part of Team Sky since its inception. A Tour de France veteran, he had both completed the entire race with a fractured pelvis and been essential in piloting Chris Froome to the yellow jersey multiple times before his own win.
One of the most popular men in the peloton, he has watched and contributed from the inside as British cycling has been transformed over the past decade. In 2014 he won Commonwealth road race gold in Glasgow and was voted BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year. In 2015 he became the first British rider to win the E3 Harelbeke: in 2016 he won Paris-Nice and in early 2018 won the Criterium du Dauphine.

He is a typical Welshman; modest, down to earth, human, full of doubt but equally full of spirit and bravery. He is a true sporting hero, a boy from Cardiff who followed his dream and slayed the demons.
In Wales our heroes are sportsmen, actors, comedians, poets and combatants in long forgotten battles. We've now got a new hero - the first Welshman to conquer France on a bicycle.
This book tells the story of that race with wit, panache, truth and emotion. Geraint is the guy you would like to meet in the pub and listen to over a few pints.
It was great to see this faithful super domestique finally win a grand tour last July and the book reflects his struggle and joy at doing so.
It was also interesting to read the thoughts of Sara, his wife, how sports men and women rely on their support network, there are also small sections by others in the support network and a final comment from Froome. It confirms that nice guys can win major sporting achievements.
I would thoroughly recommend this book to any cycling or sports fan. Tidy!
Very well written and a deeply detailed and honest account of what it takes to win the Tour de France!I
