Slay dangerous Oni in this brand new game from Tecmo Koei's Omega Force.
Toukiden takes Tecmo Koei's expertise in historically themed games to an expansive fantasy world influenced by historical and traditional Japanese elements.
Developed by the team that created Dynasty Warriors, this new franchise casts players in the role of the demon-fighting warrior, known as a Slayer. Starting from the Utakata Village headquarters where they will accept quests, players will venture out to battle monstrous and deadly Oni (demons) before they destroy all of humanity.
Players can select party members from a supporting cast of characters, or join together with up to three other players through ad-hoc mode.
- Hunt for Adventure: Action adventure gameplay with a hunting theme and fantasy-themed historical Japanese setting.
- Choose your Weapon: Take on monsters with a sword, bow, Kusari-gama, or other weapons.
- Customise your Character: Select from a variety of features to create a unique Slayer.
- Slay in a Pack: Up to 4 players can play together in Infrastructure Mode or through ad-hoc multiplayer gameplay.
- Build your own Party: Select party members from a supporting cast of characters-or team up with friends for multiplayer sessions.
- Slash! Pierce! Destroy!: Skillfully defeat monstrous and powerful Oni using the Targeted Destruction System to protect the human race from annihilation.

Were taking monster hunter gameplay here, adding in some of soul sacrifice (the drop in/out mp and the absorbing soul bits, with the ability to view body parts that are weak etc) and the accessibility of dynasty warriors (omega force make those games) and coming out with a slightly lighter weight monster hunter.
There is also some (weak) story elements here, which help attach you to the bps's (which can also join you on quests - so you're rarely alone) .
The crafting isn't quite as addictive as MH, and the weapons and armour are not as intrinsically linked to each monster here, but overall the same addictive feeling of steady progression is there.
I have played for 10 hours so far and have loved it. Its easier than MH but still challenging enough to make it feel satisfying.
Give it a go as MH isn't coming to vita any time soon....
Graphic quality is excellent; the locations are taken from Japanese history and are beautifully rendered - as you would expect from Tecmo Koei. AIl the usual Japanese AI characters are present and correct with typical Japanese voice acting - both wonderful and grating at the same time.
All in all I would thoroughly recommend this game to frustrated MH players owning a Vita...
Not the most challenging game to play and probably not as lengthy as the MH series of games, but I've put around 20 hours in so far and I'd say I'm about 40% through it.
I know MHFU is available on the Vita, but this feels so much more fluid, with the Mitama adding a nice alternative to carrying items, as well as something to level up and change abilities depending on your play style.
Only negative is the lack of online players so far!
But in way over 50 hours into this and I have barely dented the content in this game.
Would massively recomend to any vita owners

This game is okay, took me around 32 hours to complete. The only issue with it is it becomes pretty repetative to be honest, apart from that it's good fun.Published on 17 Mar. 2015 by Joseph
very enjoyable game my only problem is that bosses take ages to whittle down and it gets tedious apart from that everything else is fantastic :)Published on 10 Jan. 2015 by Jason Coates
