One thing I like about this is that it requires no drivers in XP or Ubuntu - it just appear like a normal keyboard and mouse. This is especially important for Linux, as I lost weeks of my life trying to get a Belkin bluetooth keyboard and mouse to work in Ubuntu.
Unlike cheaper wireless keyboards which only have a couple of feet of range, and are designed for desktop use, this one easily works across the living room. It is contoured to sit comfortably in both hands, or on your knees.
The trackball and positioning of the primary button are very natural - much more so than a normal mouse I think. Navigating with the mouse is certainly faster than a trackpad, and easily keeps up with the speed of mouse navigation.
I've used alkaline batteries in it, and have never needed to change them in 12 months.
Overall, an expensive purchase for a keyboard, but it is a perfect living room keyboard.
The only thing I would change is to provide both mouse buttons on the right-hand side. This would make it more useful in first person shooters - where the trackball works better than a mouse.
The bad: this is quite simply the worst keyboard I have ever used. Fortunately, I did not buy it to do much in the way of typing on. My job involves a lot of typing so I have experienced a lot of different keyboards. This is just awful, there's no tactile feedback whatsoever, you can press the keys very hard and nothing registers. I often need at least a dozen attempts to successfully type a 10 character password using this. If you are thinking of buying this to do a lot of typing on, please save yourself a lot of trouble and do not. The wifi receiver is rather massive too, it sticks out a long way from the side of the laptop I have it plugged into. Once again, do not buy this if you're looking for a keyboard to type on, but as a remote to control a computer plugged into a television, it is ideal.
Over a period of several years I have tried every cordless trackball keyboard on the market and none is fit for purpose. I will admit that the Accuratus is better than the rest, but it is still not good enough to be an everyday work tool. The lack of a separate numerical keypad is a major deficiency for me as I often need to generate foreign characters, and this is further complicated by lack of warning lights. But the biggest problem is that it doesn't transmit all the characters you key. There is no apparent reason for this, and no known cure. It is a major pain in the backside to have to go over everything you write and put in missing letters and spaces. I have persevered with the latest one in the hope that it might 'work itself in', but today I have just given up.
It is quite an expensive keyboard -- far to pricey to be the 'second keyboard' that some reviewers seem to have settled for. It's good-looking, comfortable to use, and the battery life is excellent But its main function is to transmit characters to the computer, and it just isn't up to the job.
I know there are some concerns about key press drop outs. I have only experienced this a couple of times with jumpy trackball movement. It's usually somthing like my leg causing some kind of interference and is cured by slightly repositioning my posture. I do not believe for one moment this is a fault as I have experienced the exact same issue when using the microsoft desktop 3000 mouse and keyboard combo. And as has already been observed by another reviewer, if there is some heavy traffic over an adjacent wireless router then this can also cause problems with sluggishness. I have observed this myself when backing up 20GB of data across my network . Careful repositioning of the dongle on an extension might completely eliminate this (as recommended by the manufacturer) but with it being such a rare occurence I haven't even bothered considering it.
So all in all, I'm very happy with it!
