The introduction to this book gives you a comprehensive background about the history and styles of set dancing, by a famous teacher who learned the skill as a boy when his father played 'at the crossroads' for dancers in Tipperary. It then gives clearly explained details of the most popular dances, in alphabetical order, for teachers or punters. People starting set dancing and wanting to learn some dances systematically need to buy this book. All the keen set dancers I know have a copy.

If you dance irish sets then this book is definitely a great resource and will give you figures documentated for most of the commonly danced sets in Ireland. It also has a section on the history of dance in celtic cultures through to recent history and its suppression by the church.

I have one of these books, but I bought this one for my daughter so she could practice before we went to a set dance in Ireland. Great book. Thanks.
