Toshiba's Versatile HD Ready LCD Television with built-in DVD Player
Our new DV series of HD Ready LCD televisions combine superb picture processing performance and elegant contemporary styling with the added bonus of an integrated DVD player. The HD Ready panel, driven by impressive picture processing technology, creates stunning high definition images with over 2 and a half times as many pixels as a non-HD Ready television. The built-in digital tuner gives access to the new world of digital TV channels and interactive features. With its slim-line design, the DV series LCD TV/DVD combi from Toshiba is ideal for many environments including the kitchen, bedroom, small lounge or office.
In-built DVD player and Freeview
Movie night doesn't get much simpler than the Toshiba DVD Combi range. The built-in DVD player eliminates the clutter from extra cables and components, and the digital tuner ensures that you'll be ready for the digital switch. For true viewing pleasure, the Combi will look great anywhere in the house. The built-In slot loading DVD player with easy to access operation buttons is a convenient all-in-one space saving design. This DVD player is capable of playing all of your DivX digital movie files, JPEG images and MP3 music files.
Built-in digital tuner
Between now and the end of 2012 the UK will be turning off all old "analogue" TV transmitters and switching your TV signal to "digital". Digital TV offers new ways to enjoy your TV. You will have a greater choice of TV channels as well as access to additional features and services which will enhance your TV-watching experience.
When the digital switch happens in your area, your older analogue TVs will no longer be able to pick up a signal. To keep your normal TV service running, you will need to convert your TVs to digital before your area's switchover date.
Switching your home to digital is easy. All you need to do is purchase digital tuner and connect it to your analogue TV or alternatively, you can replace it with a new digital TV. All Toshiba LCD TVs carry the Digital Tick and come with Freeview built-in, making them the ideal option for preparing your home for the digital switch.
1080p represents the highest possible screen resolution available today. Allowing up to 1 million more pixels than 720p resolution televisions to be used at any time, 1080p resolution provides an amazing level of detail and colour; picture quality which needs to be seen to be believed.
With the popularity of high definition 1080p televisions rapidly increasing, so is the importance of cables which are capable of transmitting high definition content from source to screen. Faster, more efficient data transfer is enabled by the HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) connection.
Pure, uncompressed streams of digital data are transmitted, allowing you to enjoy the benefits of the highest level of sound and image quality. Simply connect the HDMI cable from the DVD player to your TV and enjoy pure digital picture and sound quality. Currently HDMI is the only commonly available connection that can deliver 1080p resolution from a video source (such as a DVD player) to a television. By delivering clear digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide the highest-quality home theatre experience. The XDE600 upscaling DVD player comes equipped with HDMI output, allowing this crystal clear transition of content to the screen with the best possible picture and audio quality.

Great value for money.
So why only three stars?
The only way to get analogue audio to an external amplifier is via the 3.5mm headphone jack or by using the SCART socket to convert to whatever is needed by the amplifier. I chose not to use the headphone jack since this means the TV amplifier drives external amplifier input level and to listen to the TV without the external amplifier switched on would mean having to unplug the jack (which is out of sight on the back of the unit).
This left me with using the SCART socket to convert to phono (RCA) for my amplifier, whereupon I discovered that whilst a TV channel outputs sound, the built in DVD doesn't and only uses the tinny TV speakers. Even more bizarrely, switching from TV to DVD results in the DVD playing on those tinny TV speakers whilst the TV channel that was being used continues to be heard via the external amplifier.
Very poor design and I am on the brink of returning my unit because of it.

Update 24th September: Because of the TV's strong plus points, we've decided to keep it and live with 3.5mm headphone jack usage and consequently having to always switch on the external amplifier to listen to a TV channel or DVD soundtrack; were we to return it and choose another we'd probably end up with another compromise on something else. My rating remains unchanged at 3 stars though as fundamentally the feature behind my derating is still bad design.
The only thing that might surprise somebody coming from an old system with a separate DVD drive is the fact that the DVD drive has not tray, you simply shove the DVD vertically into the slot and the system grabs it from you and sucks you in. Not a surprise to anybody who has used a Macintosh computer before but a first for me on a TV. Surprise or not, it doesn't deserve the subtraction of a star because to me, it's yet another thing that won't go wrong.
A good buy, value for money from a celebrated name in TV technology and I'm very pleased with it. Recommended.
I wanted a TV to replace the aging 14" CRT portable that I have in the kitchen and the Toshiba 19DV616DB ticked all of the boxes in terms of size and functionality. Setting up the TV was simple as it is with most LCD TVs these days and the the TV had no problem picking up all the analogue and digital channels that I am used to seeing. I did some minor adjustments to the picture and audio settings but pretty much left all other settings at their default.
The picture quality is fine for a TV of this price as is the audio quality. I think that at under £200 you can't really expect stunning performance. If I want top quality audio and video I'll go and watch my Panasonic telly in my lounge which cost nearly 4 times as much.
The remote control is easy to use although a bit bigger than I had expected.
Overall a great package and if it performs as well as my 5-year old Toshiba LCD telly that I have in my bedroom then I will be more than satisfied.
