Camryn is left reeling when Brecken returns home after six years of believing he was dead, but now he's back after he was held captive and all the emotions of dealing with what's happened, in that time, and now the man she will always love is moving next door, is a new torture for both Camryn and Brecken.
Nothing is easy and believe me reading the story was hard at times, but both Camryn and Brecken captured my heart and I felt for both them, but Brecken reminds Camryn he's true to his promise even after everything that's happened and will do anything for her until the end.
This read does contain themes some might find difficult, but it's a highly charged emotional and powerful read, that so no matter how tortured people may be, true love is never forgotten.
My heart was racing throughout this book. I was rooting for Camryn to get the happily ever after she deserved. I very quickly fell in love with Brecken. Despite the hell he had been through, he still stuck by Camryn and was determined to keep her and Keenan safe. Even if it meant putting himself into the line of fire. I will admit that I figured out about Gina and Crew quickly. I hated Gina instantly. She went out of her way to drop Camryn in it with Crew. Yes she probably didn’t know the danger she was putting Camryn in but that was no excuse. I can’t even put into words my pure hatred for Crew. From the first time he was brought into the story (in chapter one) I knew there was evilness about him.
Both Camryn and Brecken are tortured in different ways. Brecken through his six-year ordeal and the aftermath. And Camryn through her marriage to an evil man. Even when they had small bouts of freedom, their brains/thoughts didn’t shut off to the fear they faced and had faced. When Camryn moved on with her life, Brecken could’ve stepped back, but instead he came to her rescue. Brecken was Camryn’s knight in a body or tortured and scarred armor. Throughout the story I was on the edge of my seat. Through the twists and turns of the story my heart raced but I was left satisfied with the ending.
Although this story is slow paced, it quickly hooks you in. Although the story is dark, it will keep you on the edge of your seat and steal a piece of your heart.
Two songs played in my mind whilst reading this book. The words from each seemed to fit; little do you know by Alex and Sierra & Something wild by Lindsey Stirling and Andrew McMahon. Trust me and listen to them two songs when you’re halfway through reading this story, you will understand what I mean.
‘’I’d give you the shirt off my back, the air in my lungs, the last drop of blood in my veins.’’
‘’Our scars prove we’re strong. They testify to what we can endure. It’s not weakness carved into them – it’s strength.’’
When Brecken leaves on his first deployment, Camryn never expected to lose him from her life for good. When Brecken was executed on live TV, Camryn became broken. Six years later and Camryn learns that Brecken his alive and coming home. As Camryn lives a life of torture due to her abusive husband, Brecken is the light at the end of the tunnel. When one beating ends particularly badly, it is Brecken that comes to Camryn’s rescue. As Brecken helps Camryn heal and care for her son, they learn that they have a month away from Camryn’s husband. With Camryn’s husband away, she and Brecken become closer then ever. When their love for one another becomes to hard to hide, they struggle with the problems they face. As Brecken helps Camryn put an escape plan in place and learn self-defense, they try to keep their relationship a secret. But as the month quickly passes they realize what little time they have. When Camryn’s husband returns for revenge the situation is deadly but will Camryn and Brecken be able to break out alive? Will Camryn and Brecken be forever tortured?
