I'm the author of 14 published novels. The most recent, release date June 15 2018, is Reveille, book two of the Blackjack trilogy. The first book in the trilogy was originally published as Blackjack by Lee Singer and published in hardcover and audiobook before its release from BooksBNimble as Torch Song. The books star Rica Marin, spy, torch singer, and mercenary in the dangerous Balkanized world of 2066.

I've recently completed a novelized memoir titled The Pepsi Cola 9th Street Grocery and have started writing the third book in the Blackjack trilogy, as yet untitled. The six earlier books in the Samson series are either available or in production as ebooks. Unlicensed iconoclast Jake Samson and his pal Rosie are PIs in the San Francisco Bay Area. One of the four books in my Barrett Lake series, Interview with Mattie, was nominated for a prestigious Shamus award.

I've taught fiction writing and worked one on one with writers as a manuscript consultant on nonfiction, literary novels and in every genre from memoir to mystery to science fiction to horror. Several clients and students have gone on to become published authors. I've been cited in the acknowledgments or dedications of several published books, including a number of award-winners. Recently, a student called me "insanely meticulous"--and meant it as a compliment. I think.

I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and began my working life as a reporter with UPI in Chicago. During a checkered and mercifully brief journalism career, I met many famous people, at least two of whom were murdered, and many not-so-famous who are still alive.

I have done too many things for a living.

Good fun read, enjoyed the plot and the humour, slightly typical of the genre, not enough back story or build up for me, not what I would call a page turner, but one that I read quickly because I picked it up in all my spare moments, definitely the sort of book I would read whilst travelling, in a plane, train etc. as it was easy to jump back into the story.

Slow burner but then it flares

If a book hasn't grabbed my attention by the throat by page 50 I dump it. There are too many good, nay great, books out there for time to be wasted. This book took a while, mainly because Singer takes some time to build in the back story by feeding it in at appropriate moments. So you dont get the "Big Monologue" on page 3-5, leaving you a little unclear as to whats going on and why, but the action soon takes over in 2066 in a post-holocaust USA. Singer has redrawn and renamed the state boundaries and the politics but not left characters in a neo-stone age. Survival is the motto of every character, though how far-will-you-go to feather your own nest at the expense of others helps distinguish the light grey from the dark grey guys. This is clearly the first in a series set around solo mercenary Rica Martin but I hope it wont be the last.

This book is very well written and takes its readers into a Fantasy and Sci-Fi world. Many books and movies have been written about the destruction of the world by the human race, this book has a simlar theme to it but with its own swist. This story is about a woman travelling through ruins of long lost cities and pirate infested freeways looking for a place to call home. Her adventure never stops from the first page to the last.
