Despite not having abused mine, one of the legs sheared off unexpectedly and I was dumped backwards onto the floor.
While I'm outside of warranty, I expect my home office chair to not try to kill me. I've tried to contact topstar both in the UK and in Germany, only to politely ask about purchasing spares to repair the chair - and I've been completely ignored.
While it lasted it was a great chair - comfy, solid feeling. I work from home and was willing to spend the extra cash to get what looked like a decent chair. Unfortunately the legs are plastic and basically not man for the job over the long term. I would therefore urge everyone to avoid this chair. There are much cheaper ways to get a concussion.

I purchased one of these chairs back in November 2012 and have used it near enough everyday for many hours at a time since then, so I feel I am in a good position to provide an honest review of this unit.

Firstly assembly is straight forward, as long as you are willing to both read and follow the instructions, you shouldn't have any issues. I will point out though that there is a small bit of wobble in my chair, where the actual sitting part attaches to the piston to go up and down, but over 4 years this hasn't gotten any worse and has had no noticeable effect on its performance or function.

I was very on the fence about first buying this chair (I shall mention now that I picked it up in one of Amazon's sales for £206.07, still a good amount for a chair). Normally I prefer leather furniture, I find it wears much better (some might even go as far as to say they develop 'character' with age) and is much cooler in the summer, at least initially. This chair though was a very different direction to what I'm used to, it feels modern, even after all these years, it still looks stylish and surprisingly imposing considering how little of it there actually is (the bulk of it is see through thanks to its mesh design).

This chair is nicely customisable, with the arms, height, head rest and lumbar support all being adjustable to suit. You will notice there that I didn't mention the backrest, that is because this only has 2 modes, bolt upright and free floaty. The idea being that you adjust the tension on the back rest until it is able to offer an equal amount of resistance to your weight, basically holding you in place till you actively push against it or lean forwards. I am quite happy to admit that when I first tried this feature I hated it, the chair goes back a surprisingly long way, and my chair prior to this has a much more simple '3 stages' of tilt. But after actually putting in the effort to get he tension just right and trying it, I think I really would struggle to go back to a standard tilting chair, this one really does let you recline as you wish and with almost no effort (on a side note, once this chair is setup for a person, other people will really struggle to use it, unless they are almost the exact same height/weight).

I like the mesh, while its a bit dirty these days, despite how flimsy it looks, its not damaged or worn in anyway (again this is after 4 years of daily use). It is also surprisingly comfortable and supportive and something I feel really should be used as a large selling point, it breaths, meaning for those days where we do actually have heat in this country, I am actually put a fan behind me while sitting in the chair and be kept cool through it!

There is a fair amount of squeak and creak to this chair, maybe that's due to any form of maintenance on my part (other than hoovering it every now and again, I do nothing to this thing at all) but I use headphones at my desk so I really don't notice it, others mileage may vary.

Other Points:
Head rest will tilt to a different position if you actually force your head into it, under normal use though its fine and stays where its put.
I use the lumbar support in its lowest position, so I have had no issues with it sliding down or anything else.
Be careful with the arms, while the structure itself is metal and very durable, the padding is a spongy material and mine have been slowly splitting themselves in half over several years, I'm honestly not sure what could be done to prevent this, maybe some kind of covering for them? < I have recently sent an email to Topstar (german company) about getting some replacement arm pads, as they are simply held in place with 2 bolts a piece, I shall post the outcome here.

Conclusion
Is this chair perfect, no don't be stupid, nothing is or ever shall be, what works for some might be horrible for others. I shall say that it has served me well for many years and I hope it to continue to do so for many more. I personally find it very comfortable, once I put in the time and effort to correctly set it up.
Would I buy it for £400+? No, but then I wouldn't buy any single piece of furniture for over £400 and certainly not an office chair. For the £200 I paid for it, I think it was a good price, considering how well its lasted and how comfortable it is.

I have given this 4 stars, but realistically its probably around a 4.3 - 4.5, lets be fair, its a chair, as long as it can hold your weight and not cause pain/discomfort while sitting on it, its pretty much filled its role as a chair, everything beyond that is just frosting.
If you see this on sale for around £200 - £250, I'd say consider picking it up.

The chair itself is amazing! Easy to assemble. (A video on YouTube helped). German made and feels quality. Not too heavy and the mesh is surprisingly supportive & comfortable
Perfect chair for someone who works for hours on a computer at home and has lower back pain.

Wish it had arm rests that rotated is the only downside.

Disappointing build quality - nothing clicks into place

This is a nice looking chair and feels good to sit on. However, the build quality is not what it should be. On my model, the seat back did not fit onto the plastic boss. That meant the nut that fitted onto the bolt only just held. Trying to tighten the nut only compressed the edges of the plastic moulding. I doubt it would have held if I leaned back. Which I wouldn't have done anyway, as the tilt was so loose it was disconcerting to lean back - it felt as if you were going to fall backwards. The click switch underneath only worked if the chair was in absolutely the right position first. Finally, the headrest did not align properly onto the chair back and did not support your head unless you leaned back a little - my physiotherapist's mantra was "posture, posture", but there was no way it would help you stay upright. All in all very disappointing and certainly not worth the money based on this particular example.

After years of crappy office seats I finally decided to buy a decent chair with back support. I looked online with several suppliers to decide which features I wanted (lumber support, adjustable head rest and breathable mesh back) then checked for deals and prices.
This is not the best chair in the world but it is a very, very good chair at a reasonable price. You might think that this is a lot of money for an office chair but if you use your office for hours at a time you will not regret buying this chair. It is very comfortable and full adjustable, maybe not for very short people as it weighs 22.5 Kg.
Assembly is quick and intuitive, build quality is excellent. The VW of German office chairs, good functionality and quality at a reasonable price. I am sure that I will be enjoying using this chair for years.

After much research decided on this 'Topstar' chair. Delivery date was give as between 1 - 3 months but was prepared to wait. Chair arrived within one month with full tracking details. Took less than ten minutes to assemble, this is were 'German Engineering" comes into play - It was 'spot on' everything fitted perfectly. New chair is so comfortable it can be adjusted to the user and I can't fault it at all. If you are going to spend any length of time sitting in front of a computer screen then this is the chair for you, the chair is easy to put together strong and robust and is adjustable to the weight of the user i.e.. the flexibility of the back rest can be adjusted to lower or higher resistance to maximise the support of your back. Neck and lumber support all adjustable. Very pleased all round.
