This is my second Arne Dahl thriller. I first read 'Bad Blood' from 2014. In that book I met the cast of characters who are resurrected from Unit A. Arne Dahl brings us the Swedish version of the political thriller in this new book. 'To The Top Of The Mountain' is by far my favorite of the two I have read. There is a cast of characters, but it is not particularly difficult to keep track of them. Each man and woman of Unit A tells their story in bits and pieces. We also pick up two new members of the Paedophile Unit in this book.

Unit A had been disbanded after the last crime spree ended in a complete mess. Jan-Olov Hultin. The Chief had retired to his country cottage. The rest of the group were sent to other departments. However, when two seemingly unconnected explosions and crimes become connected, Unit A is back together again. A prison cell was blown to pieces as was the occupant, a man in a pub was killed and several dangerous groups were identified as being present. A well known drug king pin's men were killed in a massacre. The group were given assignments, and though most work alone, they met at least once a day together in their basement office. One of the detectives who had been assigned to the Paedophile group wanted to finish his job and then work with Unit A. We see the relationships develop between the team members, and we get to know them. Several surprises along the way, but that is exactly what we should expect in Arne Dahl's books.

The storyline is very fast paced, in the midst the individuals stand out, and that is what gives this series the gratification we find at the results. I was constantly surprised at the revolving doors and the superb writing. The political situation in Sweden is a big part of this book, and it is fascinating. This book kept me at rapt attention, well worth the read.

I'm really enjoying this book, but my enjoyment is spoiled by the excruciating pronunciation of the Swedish names. Half an hour with any Swedish speaker could have sorted this out. Maybe not important if you don't know Swedish, but horrible if you do, and really grating.
