Incorrect facts and heresay abound.
Some of the cars slated have been highly rated by Clarkson in the past, but then, this book is not written by the 'proper' guys either.
The car pictured for 51 is an Alfasud Sprint and not an Alfa Romeo GTV. The text refers to the Alfa Romeo GTV which could either be the Alfetta of the early 80s or an early 70s 105 series both of which are a totally different prospect than the Sud Sprint.
the photos of iconic cars of the last few decades are good quality and a fair representation of the vehicles, there the positives end.
The text was probably composed in a quick lunch break and edited on a beer mat in a local hostelry on the way home the following evening.
This is a great disappointment and devalues the Brand name / identity of Top Gear which is emerging as a stamp of approval for all things which take a side swipe at the establishment and the man in the tweed coat drinking lager topps in the corner of the local pub on a pleasant saturday afternoon.
I will now consider carefully the next item I see for sale with Top Gear branding to see if it is a cash cow or an amusing and entertaining publication.
Buy one for Christmas for the "out of touch uncle" who buys you a boy band cd marketed for teenage girls when you've just bought your first car and are thinking of saving for a deposit on your first flat.
Yes,the book is a bit of a mickey take but that's part of its charm..those wanting a serious analysis of various marques really must look elsewhere. That said, the book does have interesting snippets of info about these cars. But,essentially, this is a light read for passing time with a grin on your face.Very nice(and occasionally amusing)period photos accompany each item.Recommended for those with a soh!
