'Izy, 18, has become a sensation in the food world' 'the next Nigella' --The Times
'At such a young age Izy has taken the blog world by storm with her mouthwatering recipes and absolutely stunning photography. With her first publication she has upped the ante once again and will have you flagging every single recipe in the book. Her creativity in the kitchen and behind the camera never ceases to amaze me. Izy's fun-loving spirit shines through the pages while she teaches you how to create simple and delectable recipes the whole family will enjoy!' --Ashley McLaughlin, author of Baked Doughnuts for Everyone and creator of the blog The Edible Perspective
'I've always been blown away by Izy's ability to capture beautiful images and create incredibly unique and delicious recipes, but her book has taken it to a whole new level. Pretzel cinnamon rolls?! Rainbow biscotti cubes?! I can hardly contain my excitement and can't wait for everyone to hold this stunning book in their hands. It is a timeless addition to my kitchen!' --Jessica Merchant, author of Seriously Delish and creator of the blog How Sweet It Is

For me this book is a collection of naughty and nice recipes. Obviously the naughty ones are the things that just taste too darn good, like the red velvet cakes, amaretto torte, boozy mocha layer cake, or the swedish chocolate cake (to name just a few). Yet the nice recipes are what surprisingly excite me more in this book, as the recipes are healthy, fresh, both looking and taste wise, and packed full of flavour. Some of my favourites have to include courgette spaghetti with chilli, corn soup, beef chilli, and cauliflower risotto, although the other untried and tested recipes I'm sure will be equally delicious.
Izy also provides basic dip recipes that again are fresh and cleansing, from standard dips of guacamole and salsa through to a chickpea and pomegranate dip. There are also various cookie, bread, and salad recipes that are sure to excite most tastebuds.
As with any good cookbook you also get the standard 'how to' guide, which shows you everything from how to line tins, and making basic bread, pastry, or ganaches, through to making salted caramel sauces and treacle butters.
I find this book fresh, exciting, and modern. I'm sure it will suffer through many years of use and I am very happy to add it to my on show collection.
Where this book really comes alive is on the sweet and dessert sections. However, saying that, the breakfast and brunch section is also delightful – with delicious Chocolate and Banana French Toast, Cinnamon Rolls and No-Bake Chocolate Granola Cookies, which are fun to make with children. With Halloween coming up, I intend to try the Malted Pumpkin Gingerbread and I really liked the Udon Noodle and Mushroom Soup. I would not suggest this as a first cookbook, but it does have some great recipes, most of which are really quick to prepare. I also liked Izy’s sheer enthusiasm and style of writing. Perhaps next time her publishers can take pity on older readers and just make the book a little easier to read, because she does deserve a wide readership. However, I accept that the book was produced with readers of Izy’s age in mind as presumably they are the ones who follow her blog. Great book with lots of useful ideas and delicious recipes and I am sure I will use it often.
Not Izy Hossack. At 18 years old she has published this cookbook with the respected publishing house Hardie Grant, collecting various recipes and ideas she has created for her well followed and reportedly very popular food blog - which she has run since she was 15. To describe her as a precocious talent and early starter would be accurate and possibly a disservice. The existence of this cookbook is testament to a great love of cookery and commendable work ethic. I applaud her for this but the cookbook has to stand on its own merits.
The three stars here reflect that this is a decent cookbook indeed. Miss Hossack is a likeable, enthusiastic writer. She does sound like an excitable teenager at times but then that is as it should be. A young food writer who came across like Rick Stein (for example) would be strange! She has obsessions with Cinnamon and Pesto, urges people who hate chickpeas to try her chickpea recipes and prepare to be converted and appears to have one heck of a sweet tooth.
Sweet treats loom large here, cookies, pancakes, Tortes, Brownies, Cakes and a host of other unctuous and sugary eats feature heavily. In fact, if you are more interested in Savoury goodies, then I would suggest looking elsewhere. These recipes are decent if perhaps a little pedestrian - there is little here that I have not seen before - and look to be easy to follow throughout.Read more ›
