From the Back Cover

A practical, compellling and snappy guide to successful leadership by the author of THe Tao Coaching

Succeeders in business are by definition good leaders. And most of us lead something at some point – whether a company, a sports team, a family or an outing with friends. At the very least we lead ourselves, and psychologists tell us that creating things, or leading initiatives, is important for our mental health. So how do we do it?

The heart of leadership can be summed up in a simple formula:
Leadership = Vision x Inspiration x Momentum (or VIM).

Strong leaders have the brain-power to paint an attractive picture of where the group/project/company should head, the interpersonal skills to inspire other people to join in and the navigational skills to sustain the required momentum. They need to apply these skills in two arenas: the strategic – dealing with specific projects; and the cultural – relating to the broader values and style of the organization.

The Tools of Leadership shows you how to achieve these goals using simple tools, tips and techniques that really work. Enlivened by cartoons and illustrations, the short, snappy chapters are succinct and easily digested, with practical lessons woven into an entertaining story about one man’s quest for first-class leadership skills.

This is a clear and accessible guide for all leaders of teams, departments, divisions and corporations, as well as managers who aspire to be true leaders and their more junior colleagues who aspire to management positions.

It helps you break out of the vicious circle we all fall into at some point. That circle has four steps: lack of confidence (1), leading to hesitation (2), then mediocre results (3), then poor feedback from yourself or from others (4), leading back to further lack of confidence (1). It really helped me to motivate my assistant, as well as myself.

Picked this up at Heathrow, and finished it as I landed in Madrid. The storyline (and cartoons) keep you interested, and the techniques do work - at least for me! The combination of fiction and instruction works very well

This book is really poor!
The Tao of coaching (same author) is really great and I was expecting another interesting book. However this one feels like an empty shell with long and painful explanations of very simple and arguable concepts that are nothing more than persuading yourself you are already motivated. And you will need a lot of motivation to read the entire book!
The very few interesting ideas were already described (in a better way) in his previous book. My advise is that this book is not worth reading, and especially if you have already read his other book: the Tao of coaching.

This book is brilliant in its execution and content. Any manager will find it enjoyable and useful to read. I have read this author's other books, especially The Tao of Coaching. In all his books, Max Landsberg demonstrates a unique insight into the skills required of today's manager.

"The Tools of Leadership" follows the VIM model (Vision -> Inspiration -> Momentum) in all its details. It is a very powerful leadership model and applicable in the field. On top of this model, also power and influencing elements regarding leadership are nicely explained together with cultural aspects.

Like his other 2 books, also this book is a fast and easy read. It offers a really great introduction to leadership. Superb!

Max Landsberg offers 3 books actually called "The tools of leadership", "The tao of motivation" and "The tao of coaching". Each book follows a similar pattern of telling, explaining and even showing funny cartoons to illustrate the stories even further. Each sub story is lovely presented and packaged so you can easily digest the lessons. The 3 books are excellent as a first and basic introduction to leadership, coaching or motivating staff. Each of them is highly recommended!

Few books on leadership are as comprehensive, insightful, and practical as this one is. This is one of the best books on the subject for both - people who are leaders and those who wish to become leader-like. Mr Landsberg experience and knowledge of the subject is quite evident. I am recommending the book to all my friends and colleagues in the United States. There isn't anything like it here.

This is a real must for anyone who spends at least part of their day trying to run a team. It is a mix of refreshing reminders, some new ideas, and lots of practical tips. Thoroughly deserved its review in Management Today.

It is very rare to find a management/business book in the "can't put it down" category. This is one. Accessible, fun and thought-provoking, it uses as its focus for each chapter the unfolding story of Alex, who has joined an advertising agency with a six-month deadline to turn it around. Alex is this century's equivalent of Voltaire's Candide, his voyage of discovery leaving us on a cliff-hanger at the end of each chapter. Combined with this fable-like story is a page of refreshingly jargon-free bullet points and action points as well as a cartoon in the Larson mould.
The book demonstrates how to create an enrolling vision, how to inspire others and how to generate momentum and energy in those around you. Highly original, The Tools of Leadership is a "must have" for those in the driving seat of organisations as well as for their passengers, their engineers and those in the pit stop.
