Piper an 18 year old girl who was upset about being dumped by her big brothers best friend goes free diving with her dad who she hadn't realised had been drinking the night b4, when something goes wrong and her dad dies in the sea she has to decide weather to pull him from the sea so she can bring him home to there family or stay in the water with the great white sharks. Living with the guilt for 9 years she returns to the island to help save her brothers home and the family business this would be easy if she hadn't turnt her back on her family in guilt and being blamed by her brother for her dads death, to become a police officer and diver officer, when she returns to the island she not only has her brother to deal with but west her ex boyfriend who she has to work with to help save her brother, lots of history and tension make for a great book, after ups and downs they finally fall in love once again, will it be a happy ending, I won't spoil it for you, but if you love a sweet romance then this is the book for you.
I loved the writing, strong characterization and worldbuilding. Initially, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy a small, rural community setting but the author wrote it so well that you couldn't help falling in love with the place.
Piper and Ryan (West) have spent years dodging each other and as the story develops we being to understand why. The author skillfully builds longing and angst and I really felt the emotions of both characters. I felt it dragged a little in the middle and I thought I'd die if they didn't get their act together.
Both characters develop and grow throughout the story and eventually learn to let each other in. It was really sweet and romantic (and there's plenty of steamy action too!)
The ending was a bit too cheesy for me (though I'm not usually opposed to a bit of cheese)and the only other thing I didn't like was the slight change in perspective and tense on occasion which was jarring. Minor complaints though. For a debut novel, I think it's very accomplished, and I look forward to reading more from the author.
Thanks to Tracey Alvarez for running a promo on this book which enabled me to pick up a copy for free. I've already downloaded the second installment and I look forward to getting stuck in.
This is the story of Piper, returning to her home island to help out her brother after an 8 year absence following the death of father.
There's unfinished business to face - family disappointment and blame at her staying away and Ryan Westlake, childhood friend and more. In between their hot, magnetic relationship there are enticing descriptions of NZ life and scenery.
I was desperate for them to get together at the end and a tiny bit desperate for a conclusion. Which is my only reservation.
I will be reading more from Tracey Alvarez though and am keen to know Shay's story ...
Post Note - have read more and it's a great series
Piper is summoned back to Oban to help with a family crisis – she heads back with dread knowing she would rather face gang members and drug addicts high on meth than set foot on Oban and face her past. The past of her father’s death on the island, which has left her with PTSD that she does not acknowledge and buries as deep as possible, the past of abandoning her family when tragedy hit and they needed her most and the possibility of facing Ryan ‘West’ Westlake who is not only her past but still holds her heart – a fact she won’t even admit to herself. She is a Police Diver, who hilariously also suffers from seasickness, she uses her sarcasm, quick wit and cutting remarks as a defence to keep everyone at arms length. She is defensive, prickly, insecure but fiercely loyal to those she loves, not hesitating to wade in before she thinks.
West is still convinced he did the right thing by pushing Piper away nine years ago to live out her dreams, he has even managed to convinced himself that this was the best thing for him too as she would have left in the longterm anyway. It is not until Piper returns that he realises he is living a half life.
Look out when they come together as fireworks are guaranteed, there are plenty of sparks when they reconnect and verbally ‘spar’, sizing each other up and both trying to convince themselves that there is nothing between them, these sparks become a raging inferno when they finally give in, with plenty of hot, dirty sex.Read more ›

Painful to read most of the book as a nine year misunderstanding is highly unlikely and lacking credibility. This undermined the whole book for me.Published 3 months ago by Amazon Customer
