Product description

This is also specified as for 8 plus but far more likely to suit children than adults but I suspect adults may be roped in to play. This is a game for two players - or two teams - from TOMY a name far better known for items for pre school children. The box contains a 50cm grid (supplied in two pieces but it clips easily together) this contains all the 26 letters of the alphabet, it is placed between the two players who sit opposite each other. As supplied they are in a central position but can be positively clicked one way or the other. There are 100 cards with various categories. Children of different ages can play against each other as the cards have four questions on each card in 'E' easy, 'M' medium, 'H' hard and 'S' superhard. In the centre of the grid is a timer - requiring 3x'AAA' batteries not supplied. Each card round lasts 90 seconds and each player takes turns to name a different letter object from the category given on the card, once that letter has been taken the letter is clicked away and cannot be used again in that round.

This is the best game to come into our house for a long time! Though it says 8+ our son is 4 and loves it; we just make up our own categories like "thomas trains" or "colours" or "veggies". At dinner parties we do the same--just let everyone shout out ideas for categories if they aren't inspired by what is on the card. You can be silly or serious, depending on the players.

It is also *great* for travel. Our 4 and 6 year old can play for ages and it folds up quite small.

A fantastic game, simply but genius! Buy it!

Great fun even when played with a six year old. It's amazing how hard it is to think of words that begin with a particular letter in a category especially when the pressure is on against young competitors!! It can get fast and furious trying to grab the letters to your side, so perhaps supervision is required when with over competitive opponents!! The only annoying feature with the game is that you cannot switch the buzzer off once pressed (you have to sit through the 90 seconds) and it's easily activated when setting up. So far we've tried it with young and old ages 6-55 and it's proved a hit and sometimes with great debate. So overall an interesting and fun game for wordy enthusiasts.

I bought this for my 8yr old nephew as one of his pressies for christmas 2007.
I know when I've done good. His Parents are 40 and they have a 3yr old boy too.
Said it was the game of the holiday as everyone enjoyed it, options for the younger player meant little bro was included.
I always buy these types of games as I'm a bit lacking in the techno area and leave that to the parents to sort, some times i come up trumps and sometimes not.
I know this was a winner as they are still playing it as a family on the weekends.
Sorry if the review lacks detail, but to anyone who can relate I hope it helps a little. It's worth buying.

This is a great word game that is based on both rapid response and quick thinking!

Each player has to think of words that fall into various random categories. This is against an electronic timer and players compete against each other at the same time, rather than 'taking turns'. This is a fun and exciting game that gives no time to get bored! (unlike Scrabble)

Has the usual high quality components expected and associated with Tomy games, but as a previous reviewer has stated; the only issue of complaint here is the fact that the Timer cannot be switched off if inadvertently started, and thus players have to sit around for the Timer to stop of its own accord - a little niggling.

Still not worth knocking a star off this great game! : - )
