I have a boy, but I think girls would like this just as much. Jonathan Emmett is a favourite of mine and my 4-year-old loves his stories too.

Tom is a toymaker's apprentice but loses his position when he can't stop making only clockwork toys. But he finds a new job when he hears there's an opening for a brave knight to rid the kingdom of a dragon. With armour-maker's daughter Lizzie, Tom discovers his skills at clockwork might be just the thing for vanquishing Flamethrower the dragon.

How Tom and Lizzie beat the dragon had my son grinning and cheering. It's very funny as well as they trick with lies, which my son has just started to understand.

A great adventure for small ones, beautifully illustrated and a lovely story about smart children doing great things.

Good for 3-7 year olds, boys and girls. Would work well in KS1 and nursery classes too, lots of activities that could be undertaken around the story.

Tom works for a Toymaker and likes making mechanical toys, but when he is fired, he needs a new job and applies for dragonslayer. He meets Lizzie when he goes to collect his suit of armour and together they hatch a plan to build a mechanical dragon. It nearly works until they run out of clockwork power, but by tricking Flamethrottle into winding the key, power is restored and Flamethrottle banished. Tom & Lizzie then set up in business as clockwork toy makers. Bright, colourful illustrations accompany the text. They Toymaker seems very fierce, but fortunately only appears once

One of our child's favourite stories, so very glad to see it for sale. Especially recommended for those children who enjoy contraptions. Oh, and the storyline works very well, too ;>
