Advanced Lane Guidance
Drivers often feel stressed at unfamiliar junctions when there are a lot of lanes to choose from. Advanced lane guidance provides extra clarity to drivers in these circumstances, so they won't miss a turn or have to make a last-minute lane crossing. It works by giving them a still 3D image on the screen that clearly indicates the lane they need to take. So even at the most complex junctions and in the heaviest traffic, drivers can stay relaxed and in control.

Map Share™ Technology
Our research reveals that roads change by as much as 15% every year. That's why we draw upon the largest satellite navigation community in the world – ours. Through our unique Map Share™ technology, drivers can make corrections to their map and benefit from thousands of corrections made by over 40 million TomTom users every day – free of charge.
Over 5 million Map Share™ corrections have been made worldwide to date. Through Map Share™, a driver can: block and unblock a street, reverse traffic direction, edit a street name, change turn restrictions, change road speed, add a missing Point of Interest (POI), edit a POI, and report another error.
Helping you to keep your eyes on the road, spoken instructions include street names, to make turnings even clearer.
Save Time & Money
Drive smarter with the GO 750 LIVE. Not only can you find the best route at any given time, you can save money with information on the lowest local fuel prices, the most economical routes, and more.
It's often helpful to check the radio, TV and internet for traffic news. But most of these sources only give news on the main highways. And that information won't make any difference to route calculation on your device. Our leading HD Traffic™ service, however, gives drivers more detailed updates on more of the roads – live on their TomTom device. Users can view detailed incident reports, estimated delay times and alternative route proposals in an instant. The result? Drivers stay calm and in control, with the most accurate journey durations and arrival times.
Your TomTom device receives the latest fuel prices. Get directions to the cheapest fuel station around and save money on your fuel bill.
Driving with these more fuel-efficient routes saves you money as well as reducing your impact on the environment. Your device can show you the route which has a lower environmental impact, using the driving data of millions of TomTom users.
IQ Routes™ Technology
Only TomTom uses actual speed data collected from millions of users to calculate the fastest routes at any point in time. Imagine a route that takes into account rush hour, traffic lights, zebra crossings, school exits or even shopping crowds, every minute of every day. That's how smart IQ Routes is!
QuickGPSfix™ speeds up the time it takes to fix your GPS position to help you drive off more quickly.
Update your maps, plan your route, or get involved with the TomTom community - all from the comfort of your own home.

I used it for a couple of journeys in the afternoon and the mapping was good, more up to date than previous models and the traffic data seemed to be working though I didn't have any hold ups to test it with.
Anyway that was all fine until I connected it to the PC with the TomTom home software. This is required to update the maps (corrections are made daily), speed cameras or generally to change anything about the device.
The software told me that a newer software and map was available and recomended me to upgrade. So I allowed it to run its process, which was simply me pressing 'OK' and letting it go. Everything seemed to work fine, but in performing this update I effectively broke the Sat Nav on the first day!
This is apparently due to me previously owning a Tomtom and using the same computer before, nothing in the manual tells you this, nothing on the software told me this. It just went about its business corrupting the device.
TomTom support replied after 2 days asking for a large amount of technical information including taking a number of screenshots and attaching them to my reply. At no point did they appologise for the way their software destroyed my device within 1 day, and they expected me to wait another 2 working days for a follow up message (which may or may not solve the problem).
Having purchased from Amazon, I simply sent it back. Amazon's customer service is second to none and a new Tomtom arrived on the same day as the old one was collected by courier.Read more ›
The live service works with a sim that is in the phone. It is on the Vodaphone network. It works in the areas it says it does in Europe for the same price. It apparently works by monitoring where other TomTom live units and vodaphone phones are and works out how fast they are travelling, so I presume the more units the more information.
Live services are generally good, just knowing how long a traffic jam is, has changed my thoughts of "must find a different route" to well 10mins I can sit through it. Usually the traffic jam isn't there which is a bonus. I drive in London and it picks up all the jams. It can take me through from south east London to west London and the arrival timing is impeccable.
And think, one day when you hit a road/ motorway that is closed you're gonna thank that live service no end and blag to all your mates about how well it did.
Local google search is really cool. Just tap in the shop/ garage/ whatever name and it finds it then asks if you want to select it and hey presto your on your way. This also worked in France recently.
Some times it doesn't log onto to the live services, but will do within 5-10mins.
Did an eco route back from the alps the other day, not sure what that means, but it took us on a spectacular (yet really slow) route through mountains hugging switzerland and germany. I can't see how this was fuel efficient.
The routes taken by this TomTom are generally very good, but local knowledge always wins.
The new screen attachment was weird at first but good in hindsight.
Bluetooth is good with blackberry bold 9000. sound is very loud and clear.Read more ›
I (naively?) called TomTom's much improved helpline to pose the question 'what are the main differences between the 940 and 950 models?'. Guess what. I was not informed that the FM transmitter had been dropped (along with the MP3 playing function), nor about the lack of the 'Buddies' function... Instead I was told about the 'improved menu functionality'. Having a 540 in the other car, the only difference I see is a slightly different map overview when planning a route (with a new 'ecoroute' planning option). Given that I am used to the 'look and feel' of the X40 series, I see no benefit to the X50 series.
If you are used to a X20/X30/X40 series model and want to buy another, avoid the X50 series. In fact, GRAB THE X40 MODEL WHILST YOU CAN - its (slightly) cheaper, and if the various forums are anything to go by, works far better (reliability, smoother menu operation).
I still believe that there is no real alternative to TomTom in the market, especially the 'HD Traffic' but in this case, NEWER IS NOT NECESSARILY BETTER.
Also, be careful where you seek advice... (silly me). No beef with the TomTom device itself, but the organisation marked down on inaccurate 'advice'. Brand value way down in my estimation.
I am really pleased with the 950. I have used it in the UK and Ireland so far and it has been excellent. A significant improvement on the 910. Everything works as it should including the Live services. The 950 has paired with my iPhone and now acts as a car kit for the iPhone allowing me to ditch the headset/earpiece. As soon as I turn the TomTom on it automatically links to the iPhone, which is more than the Apple earpiece does.
There are a few changes I have had to get used too. I had the 910 set up for the screen to change to blue if my speed crept over 70mph. I cannot seem to do that on the 950 but I have set the speed warnings anyway. I would like to be able to reposition some of the information readouts on the bottom of the screen. It would have been neat if there had been a way to transfer my favourites from one TomTom to the other. Perhaps there is. Who cares because I really really like the new machine. I would recommend buying the TomTom hard case to protect the 950. It does not add too much to the size and provides good protection to the TomTom.Read more ›
