This is the set we as fans and T&J deserved from day one!

37 chronological cartoons un-edited, restored and remastered! Beautiful!

Sadly this dvd is region coded so get yourself a multi region player.

The set menu's are easy to navigate.

The restoration is immense compared to the grainy R2 set we English buyers have.
You get some lovely extras with commenteries from Jerry Beck and a range of historians. The extras are such a treat on H&B. My favorite being How Joe and Bill met Tom and Jerry.

Word around the camp fire is that 10 cartoons arent perfectly restored, but to the untrainec eye like myself, its not some weight to pull this set down and 8 titles have not been restored. But besides that, smile because its all un-cut.

Contnts break down:

I made no secret of my distaste for the censored version of the Tom and Jerry shorts available on the Tom and Jerry - Spotlight Collection DVD. Not only was history whitewashed to satisfy the PC Brigade (just who ARE these people anyway?) they were also in shocking condition with lots of dirt and scratches and generally terrible picture quality.

All is now fixed for this Blu Ray release from Warner, presenting the first 37 shorts, in chronological order, with brand new 1080p transfers from the best 35mm materials, Dolby 5.1 sound (HD sound is not confirmed at the time of writing, but these cartoons WERE released in Mono anyway and DD 5.1 is still a notable upgrade) and, most importantly, UN-EDITED AND UN-CENSORED. You will finally be able to see the REAL Mammy-Two-Shoes voiced by Lillian Randolph, and various other 'racially inflammatory' visual jokes.

The cartoons included are:

Puss Gets The Boot
The Midnight Snack
The Night Before Christmas
Fraidy Cat
Dog Trouble
Puss N' Toots
The Bowling Alley Cat
Fine Feathered Friend
Sufferin' Cats
The Lonesome Mouse
The Yankee Doodle Mouse
Baby Puss
The Zoot Cat
The Million Dollar Cat
The Body Guard
Puttin On The Dog
Mouse Trouble
The Mouse Comes To Dinner
Mouse In Manhattan
Tee For Two
Flirty Birdy
Quiet Please!
Springtime For Thomas
The Milky Waif
Trap Happy
Solid Serenade
Cat Fishin'
Part Time Pal
The Cat Concerto
Dr. Jekyll And Mr.

Dismissing MGM's 'Tom and Jerry' cartoons as silly or, more often than not, a childish affair would be quite contrary to the target audience that William Hanna and Joseph Barbera were aiming for. Its an unfortunate circumstance, but when the MGM animation studio was shut down and cartoons were repeated on TV, the theatre was no longer a staple venue for families to go and enjoy new shorts before or in between film screenings. And with that, Tom and Jerry has slowly become a disorganised franchise that Sky channels such as 'Boomerang' control. And yet, even when I was a child, Tom and Jerry was the one thing I looked forward to on Saturday morning TV. Ohh how times change...

It came as a wonderful surprise then that Warner Bros. announced they were releasing a Blu-ray set with up to 40 shorts, and that should the product sell well enough, the series would be continued. No were not daydreaming - this is the "real deal".

But lets gets down to the pressing facts. Working in chronological order, this products contains the first 37 shorts of the Hanna-Barbera era, beginning at 'Puss Gets The Boot' (1940) and ending at 'Professor Tom' (1948) - an impressive chunk (thats over 4-hours!) considering that the Classic Collection DVD Vol. 1 contained just 24 shorts. Obviously the price difference is considerable, but as I hope to explain, this is a product that is just about worth the asking price.

The shorts are spread across two Blu-ray discs, meaning that compression/low bit-rates are rarely present. On the other hand the audio is NOT lossless, just Dolby Digital.

In addition to the 37 shorts, you also get a number of bonus features.
