If you haven't seen or played division it's a third person open world game set in a post disease emergency New York.
At the start follow a set path which eases you into the story (which is excellent) and the controls and style of play.
You gain xp to level up getting better weapons and armour which you can modify as you go along, through either crafting or buying better attachments or mods for your armour.
The difficulty level is perfectly judged I think, you seem to upgrade weapons and armour to keep up with the mission you're playing, I've not played a game that judges it better. (There was previously an issue which has previously been sorted with the latest patch)
Longevity wise the single player lasted a long time with plenty of missions and side missions to complete (and again on harder difficulties once you finish the game).
Multiplayer elements are either joining teams for missions or through the 'dark zone' which is a free roaming area which allows PvP combat, or via the 'underground' which is an ever changing area for multiplayer missions.

Right, from the off please bear in mind that I am only a 'Casual' gamer so it is from this perspective that I am reviewing this.

Having never before been into on-line gaming, I was a bit apprehensive when I decided to purchase this. I'm not brilliant at these sorts of games, tending to get buttons wrong, jumping instead of crouching in panic etc! However, I have to say as the title suggests I am finding it fun in a frustrating way.

The first 'mission' found me cursing and almost launching my controller at the TV, and thinking I was going to regret buying this - however, settling in to the way it plays, found that progressing and leveling-up is a matter of patience! My recommendation is; side missions - do them! By taking your time as a 'single' player to carry out the side and additional missions before moving to the 'Main Mission' element helps you level up your strength/stamina/weaponary - The 'Main Mission' elements are not forgiving, and trying to go in with limited resources is only going to end up in bullet-ridden death! Take your time in the early levels, explore the alley-ways, shops, buildings etc it may seem to 'hard-core' gamers boring, but to gentle souls, like myself who may only play for a bit of fun and relaxation, this is a good way of building inventory.

I would never usually give a Ubisoft product a positive review, but given they were kind enough to include female avatars and a good amount of non-PvP content, they can have a thumbs up for The Division.

The "campaign" is good fun and the difficulty is not out of control, although intelligent scaling based on party size would have been better than the one size fits all difficulty, meaning many missions are too easy in a group and a bit knuckle biting solo. The atmosphere and look of the game are both engaging, making the world you're playing in appealing and immersive for the most part. The animations and movement are excellent, rather than jerky or too fast/slow as some may remember from a few of the AC games.

If you have the choice between PC and console this is one of only a few games that I would strongly recommend getting on console. The safeguards against cheating are significantly better on the console versions, whereas the Dark Zone on the PC is frequently criticized for being hacked and exploited and Ubisoft have done little to nothing to address PC player concerns.

It's a game I've been waiting for for over 2 years, and it really hasn't lived up to expectations. I'm not worried that the graphics are a little less impressive than that E3 demo, it still looks awesome. The main issue is that the game itself is crushingly dull. A constant grind with tiny rewards (hard to get excited about a +2% accuracy improvement), and also exceptionally hard if played solo. When you matchmake it's ok, the bosses are literally just lumbering bullet sponges and due to how the enemy strength increases in line with yours you never feel the benefit of improved gear. Frustrating to unlock a supposedly good looking marksman rifle only for it to still take 2 headshots to drop the lowliest of goons. It could have been so much better, their original proof of concept looked incredible but they obviously had to make changes prior to release. Reviews have said the Dark zone is great (at first) but at the endgame descends into mis-matched chaos. I'm sure this will probably be sorted out with future patches, but I never even made it in there (level 10) as after 10 hours or so I was stranded on level 8 with no motivation to wander for 15 minutes across a bleak map to do a meaningless fetch-quest in order to add 5% of the XP required to level up to have a chance of completing the next story mission. If you (like the imaginary gamers they use in the videos) have a tight group of 4 mates who can play 3-4 hours a day together, on headsets then I think this will be excellent fun. If (like me) you squeeze in a couple of hours every few days, often alone or with the occasional random, it's probably not for you. I have already re-sold my copy to recoup some of the initial outlay.
