If you enjoyed Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, you will LOVE this book. There is no swearing or sex in this series. Mature theme. 16+YA/ EPIC/ NEW ADULT/ FANTASY /ROMANCE FANTASY /TIME TRAVEL /DYSTOPIA /ADVENTURE
Author M.E. Lorde creates a gripping story set in the earth’s future, where the youth of the world have the privilege and burden of saving humanity from extinction.
Years before an apocalyptic event, a new means of travel is discovered. The modern technology comes just in the nick of time. Though none can return to a past-time in order to fix what men have destroyed, some candidates can now move forward to begin anew.
Highly intelligent, Tolomay Ramey was trained since birth to do one thing… to lead others into the future of the ‘clean earth’ where both nature and mankind are given a fresh start. Leaving the pod community behind, she arrives as the only living ‘Original’ from the first team of candidates. The clean world, abundant with plant and animal life, is covered in green for the first time in hundreds of years.
Unfortunately for this young girl and despite the beauty of the replenished earth, nothing she experiences from the moment she arrives is as expected. Alone for three years, until others finally join her, she learns to survive off the land, but that will not be what she finds most challenging. What will happen when a strong-headed young man arrives with the mindset that he should have been the first in this paradise? Can independent Tolomay and fiercely confident Kenter meet in the middle? Can the clean world become what it was intended to be for the new community, or will all thoughts of peace be left a thousand years in the past?

This is a real page-turner and the start of a cool series. I’ve already ordered the next book. Anyone who likes an intense dystopian fantasy(even a thread of romance) will enjoy this series. Highly recommended 5-stars.
What a story!
I was utterly gripped!
Following Tolomay as she goes through the pool of light to land on Earth in the future an as she struggles to come to terms with the fact that her companions never made it through.
An then comes Leth and Kent an again she struggles only this time with her heart and falling for Kent and then more people arrive that ends up breaking her heart!!!
I seriously can't believe how this book ends I seriously want to read the second book!!!!!
As others said, this is by no means a short book, but I had trouble putting it down. The characters are unusual and at times do some pretty odd-seeming and even unfeeling things...but they are deeply sympathetic, despite their "alienness" in some ways, and by the end I felt like I actually knew them, which to me is always a sign of really amazing characterization. I'm definitely going to go on to read the next books in the series....this is a very talented writer, in terms of vision and depth of feeling, especially.
Tolomay's World and The Pool of Light
Where to start.........WOW. I literally read this book in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. Tolomay is such a strong character, and with the addition of Lethia & Kenter there is a great balance. The concept is unique, it's well written and has amazing character development and world-building. You learn more and more as the story unfolds and the ending leaves you on such a cliff hanger: this story is definitely only just beginning.
Warning: You will want to jump straight into the next book: Tolomay's World and the Mountain of Tegi.
I received an e-copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
The book is well written, with just enough suspence to keep you reading, and with enough open questions to want to read the next part of the series too.
The main character seems to be a typical young teenage girl, with all the problems of growing up, but with a lot of inner strength that makes you admire her.
When the story continues and more young persons arrive in the future, the interaction between them gets more complicated, and causes problems, as you would expect in normal life too.
Certainly a book I would recommend to others.
ps. I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review, through WaAr. This has not influenced the outcome of this text!
It is a cautionary tale of sorts (I don't give spoilers), a fantasy mixed with romance and an amazing insight into a 'clean world', where the talent and imagination of the author abounds.
The story is filled with wonderful descriptions and 'fitting' language that intertwines English with a twist...a mix of future and past and a dash of how communication and beliefs could evolve.
The characters are believable, although Kenter may have to 'grow up', but as the story continues, we do see his possibilities. Tolomay is fantastic, and I look forward to finding out how she continues on her 'journey'. Kenter's sister, too, has great potential. The males do seem to be far weaker than the females - so far :)
A fabulous read, although my 'problem' is having to wait for the next installment.
Highly recommended.
