What an amazing story of unbelievable hardship and trials of life during that time. It brought to life the terrible struggle just to survive. I was hoping for a follow on book but havenot found it what a shame.

I do not usually read books that are fiction, but this book kept me gripped throughout

I will not spoil the story line, but it is well written, and an easy read, and the dialogue flows well.

It is the author's first book, and I cannot wait for the sequel

Outstanding historical novel. Riveting read covering the real human tragedy of the first world war,
the hardships of farming in the mid west of Canada and a real family history.
A story Thomas Hardy would have been proud of.

This is a beautiful story of human endurance during desperate times - a story of true grit, courage and true love. A real page turner from start to finish and a thoroughly interesting read from a historical point of view. I felt a real connection with the characters, which was augmented by the photographs available to view on the website. I could not put this book down until I had finished and was definitely left wanting to read more!!!

I met the author at a local Farmers Market (very enterprising!) and decided to get the book on the back of this as the story seemed fascinating. I was not disappointed and was drawn in from the start. The descriptions of life in the Canadian prairies was very vivid and even more interesting when you know it is a true story. I am looking forward to the sequel.
