I completely loved this book, admittedly I only came to it having downloaded the first one free (the same with the Dulcie Oneil series) but I am so glad I did. This story is engaging and I felt compelled to find out what happened next! The writing is just what I am after, full of emotion and suspense but with good helpings of satisfaction! I noticed a review of the first book slating the writing style but as a busy mum of three with a job and too much on, this is the kind of distraction I crave!!

The story continues exactly where the reader stopped after book one and continues with Jolie training and working toward the inevitable battle. The love triangle continues to stir conflict and as Jolie's magic develops in power she is becoming ever more important to the future of the underworld. There is also a lovely plot twist that I didn't see coming but broke my little heart for Rand!!

I am hugely disappointed that books 3 & 4 are yet to be made available on the kindle, I shall hold off as long as I can but if they dont turn up soon I shall buy the remainders in paperback, I have enjoyed them that much!!

I can not remember the last time that I have fallen so in love with a series of books. I dread having to stop reading, I get excited when am able to go back to reading and I am already dreading catching up to the latest book as I do not know what I will be doing with myself until the next one comes out. It does make me happy that I did not discover this series right away so that I can read 3.5 books in one go because the wait between them would have been terrible.

I also find myself very torn between Rand and Sinjin. I have never really faced this problem before it has usually always been so clear in the past in other books. Team Edward, check. Team Peeta, check. I can not for the life of me stand Jacob or Gale. However in this book... I love Rand and Sinjin both so much!

Honestly, I can't pick. I have no idea how Jolie is going to come to her final decision. I have an inkling who it will be. I guess my true feelings will be found out when that decision is made as I am sure I will feel saddened with either choice.

It is now 12:47am and I am in work at 8:00am so unfortunately I can not start 'Be Witched' right away but as soon as I am off work tomorrow I will begin. It is only a Novella but I am so excited to see the story of Toil and Trouble through the eyes of Rand.

Do I really have to go to sleep????

I read 'Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble' which I downloaded as a free book and enjoyed it so I bought the next book in the series 'Toil and Trouble'. The books are great to escape into, the story lines are well thought out and the characters - well some you love and some you love to hate - it really is Harry Potter for grown ups. As other readers have said, there is no need to rehash the plot, I will let you make your own judgement. However, one thing that really made me cry with laughter was the writers idea (unintentional I'm sure) of how Scottish people speak, one example being the word "doona" instead of "dinnae" for the word "don't" - I won't give away any more - read it and weep (with laughter) - I almost needed a translator - but apart from that, I did enjoy the first two books in the series, although if the next isn't available for Kindle, I "woona" go out of my way to buy it.

4.5 Stars for Toil and Trouble - Jolie Wilkins Book 2 - by H. P Mallory

This book picks up immediately after book one and what a fabulous second book to a series. I love all the characters in these novels and this one does not disappoint. On the whole most of the key characters in this book were introduced to us in the first novel Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble and this sequel provides more depth to those we came to know.

There are two key male characters Rand, a gorgeous warlock and Sinjin a dangerous but sexy vampire! The sexual tension is there from page one and continues to frustrate Jolie throughout the book. She does however make some progress to clarify her feelings and learns more about these two men to understand them both more clearly and their attitudes to each other.

The Underworld is about to go to war, although they have come close before, it's never actually happened, and it's all about Jolie. She is new to this world and is going to have to understand it pretty quickly and since Jolie has the power to re-animate the dead - she could be very busy.

What I love about this writing is that in what is a paranormal romantic world, the scenes still have a gritty reality to them. They are funny, Jolie tells us exactly what she is thinking, with basic no frills language that would come to mind in those situations.

I'm hooked on this series, I finished the book with a real sigh just wanting to get the next installment like NOW! I also shouldn't complain as this book was scheduled for release 1 Jan 2011 - I got it a whole month early - FAB! Authors in control is a true bonus.

I've become a real fan of self-publishing and will seek more Indie Authors!

Having read the first book and very much enjoyed it (I read in a day on holiday)I then downloaded this one immediately. I love to be able to read a whole series of books and get totally immersed for a few weeks (seeing it was a 5/6 series of books) Its a brilliant book and really well written. I really like Jolie (which is all important in these things). Some things are a little irritating and sometimes you can see where its going and can't help but think she is going down the whole Twilight/Sookie Stackhouse route.... But hey it worked before and it is working here. I was then somewhat devestated to discover that when I finished this one the rest of the series isn't on Kindle??? WTF? All of her other books but not the rest of this series..... nothing more irritating than that!!! You can order in paperback but takes 3/4 weeks? Come on Publishers, what is going on here? Hence 4 not 5 stars
