This CD puts together three recording sessions. The first two were at the Columbia studios and the third (4 days later) was recorded at the Roulette studios. The band personnel was the same for all sessions but each studion had its own producer. It puzzles me that for the Columbia recordings the band and Tony Bennett sound pretty good but nothing out of the ordinary, yet, 4 days later in Roulette's studio, the band is suddenly 20% more vibrant and Tony Bennett is swinging like mad and obviously enjoying himself.
So, half this CD is fairly decent but one half is excellent. Incidentally, the Count is only on two tracks and his place at piano is taken by Bennett's usual pianist Ralph Sharon who is an excellent stand-in for the incomparable Count.

This reissue melds the results of two main sessions, grouped around the December and January period. As far as I can see, these have been available previously as separate albums. The original over-dubbed applause, which gave the false impression of a live audience, has been removed, enabling the music to be heard in its own right. The numbers vary between swingers and ballads, mainly from the standard songbook. A word of caution is necessary because, despite the title and cover illustration, Bennett's long-standing accompanist Ralph Sharon officiated at the keyboard for all but two of the 23 tracks. If you buy this for the vocalist you'll be happy, but don't expect to hear Count Basie tickling the ivories throughout.
