I picked this up as it looked pretty original and I've been trying some new stuff recently. I have to say I really enjoyed it. The artwork throughout the book is stunning and it was actually funnier than I thought. Very witty little comic and I'll be picking up part two.

HASH(0x9a257840) out of 5 stars Dark, smart & wickedly funny 21 Aug. 2013
By D. M. Burke - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Purchased Todd for my 15-year-old (going on 30!) teen-age son who has always been a really passionate fan of comics, graphic novels, etc. He devoured it in one gulp and is now telling all his friends that it's his new favorite. I was intrigued since he's usually not that effusive. So I picked it up, intending to flip through the first couple of pages...and got totally hooked. Seriously could not put it down. I adore Todd! Can't wait for his next adventures!

HASH(0x9a91fd80) out of 5 stars An excellent pitch black comedy 20 Aug. 2013
By DeGuire - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is an audacious and very funny book. The character of Todd is an innocent, eternal optimist living in a dark and cruel world. Kristensen pulls no punches with the humor - horrific events are played for laughs - and yet the book never feels misanthropic because the main character is so relentlessly positive. I definitely want to read more.

HASH(0x9b406fa8) out of 5 stars Love Todd 21 Aug. 2013
By Claudia Goldberg - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
My husband turned me on to Todd and I can't get enough. He's a perfect character in a terribly imperfect world and the story is twisted - genius - gross - depraved - and laugh out loud fun.

Love Todd

HASH(0x9a6b0930) out of 5 stars Sweet and Sick 20 Aug. 2013
By slksarah - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
"Todd, the Ugliest Kid on Earth" is funny, sick, twisted, and fantastical, but it also has a poignant coming of age quality. This is thanks to the book's hero, Todd. While he may be super ugly, he also is one of the sweetest and most innocent kids on earth. He pulls at your heartstrings, even while the seriously messed up adults around him shock and horrify. This book is full of dark satire and great art. My favorite parts are the slams against Scientology, but Domino's pizza, plastic surgery, and the Bush administration also receive their due. I like this book because it surprises. What other book has a Maniac Killer and a little fly that sings "Swing Low Sweet Chariot"? I won't give away the twist at the end, but let's just say that a little light comes into Todd's dark world.

HASH(0x9a6b03a8) out of 5 stars Left me sneezing with laughter 25 Oct. 2013
By Alt - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
If your sense of humor is a little twisted, or if you appreciate twisted humor, Todd, the Ugliest Kid on Earth is worth your time. Todd is the epitome of a sweet, innocent, naïve little kid who is surrounded by evil but never seems to notice it. A maniac killer takes out Todd's neighbor and Todd gets blamed and imprisoned, but the plot is sort of irrelevant. The story is a send-up of racism, poor parenting, bullies, cops who crave publicity, infidelity, Oprah, and Scientology, among other seemingly random topics. To top it off, the story is educational. It ends with a glossary of prison terms so that readers who haven't served time can understand the part of the story that takes place while Todd is behind bars.

Although the story is a mixture of slapstick and satire, it weaves together several plotlines in a coherent way. The art is just silly enough to match the mood of the whacky storytelling. The writing is sharp and Todd is endearing. With unexpected and involuntary sneeze-like laughs provoked by nearly every page, I have to give this a top score on the laugh-o-meter.
