Bought this to supplement my almost 50 year old collection of vinyl Loussier. Inevitably, much of the content of this 2 CD set duplicates music already in my collection but did include 4 items which had eluded me previously (including the superb F minor Concerto). Re-recorded sound quality a lot punchier than with vinyl equalisation and mostly the better for it. In these chaotic pre-Brexit times, a wonderfully soothing listen and at only 23p per track what's not to like? Possibly only the very long intervals between tracks which can be just a mite irritating after a few listens?
Due to accidental damage, recently had to get a replacement copy of this album. There was nothing to suggest that any remixing had been undertaken for this issue but there was a quite noticeable improvement in the stereo imagery this time - nice!

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I think this was JL's first UK release back in 1963 - or at least, that's when I first heard it, and as a young musician at the beginning of his career, I was completely knocked out by Loussier's concept and what he was doing with it. I first had this album on vynil, but with constant moves, frequently including different countries, the vynil got lost in the mists of my very strange life. However, I never forgot the music, and when I was browsing through Amazon, looking for something else, I was delighted to find JL's Toccata on CD. I ordered it straight away on the Monday of the week and it arrived two days later on the Wednesday. Well done Amazon for a brilliant service! Almost 50 years since I first heard Loussier's music, it has lost none of it excitement and vibrancy; I would recommend this CD to any Jazz aficionado, and also, with some mischief in my soul, to anyone who loves the work of J.S. Bach.

I first became acquainted with much of these works nearly a quarter of a century ago and of course they were vinyl LPs. I threw out all my vinyl long ago so Mr Loussier had not featured in my music collection for some time. Many of us have replaced our old vinyl with back catalogue CDs and that was my intention when I bought this beauty.
Well 'Quelle Surprise!'. These are not re-issues or re-masters, Mr Loussier has been back into the studios to re-record a large body of his work for re-release on Digital media. These recordings are absolutely fantastic and when you have these CDs playing you would think Mr Loussier is playing live in your sitting room.
True advocates of Jazz are noted for not being appreciative of Loussiers' Jazz inspired improvisational interpretations of Bach, they consider him to be a lightweight, but his style is relatively easy on the ear and should appeal to listeners whose love of music does not stretch to the more involved elements of Jazz.
In any case, I'm of an age that I cannot listen to one particular track without thinking of 'A Cigar Called Hamlet'................(ref,. to a UK TV advert.)
