Faye Kellerman's new suspense thriller Stalker is as intelligent about police procedure as it is about family relationships. Cindy Decker is an ambitious young LA policewoman, mistrusted by her colleagues because her father is a senior lieutenant; when someone starts harassing her--following her car, moving things in her apartment--she is aware that it may be no more than a fellow officer with a streak of malice. But coincidences start piling up, connections to the kidnapping and murder of Crayton, a man she knew slightly from the gym, a kidnapping that may have a connection in turn to a series of car-jackings which have progressively escalated into violence against women. Cindy is an attractive flawed heroine--her determination not to go running to her father for help drifts towards foolhardiness and her piecing together of facts from separate ongoing investigations show real comprehension of the teamwork aspect of policing. Faye Kellerman also brings to this excellent thriller a real sense of place--the cliffs where Crayton died become more terrifying each time the plot takes us back there--and a cumulative suspense that comes not only from real jeopardy, but from characters about whom we care deeply. --Roz Kaveney --This text refers to the Audio Cassette edition.
Outstanding, suspense-packed...Kellerman is a fine writer, beautifully evoking the feel of Los Angeles and creating scenes that would please Chandler and MacDonald. She deals realistically with the problems women face in a male police world...wise and honest (Publishers Weekly)
The page-turner of a plot is fuelled by Kellerman's seemingly boundless knowledge of the psychological mind-set of both cops and criminals... Many compelling characters and asides on everything from religion to family dynamics... Another winner (Booklist)
`This novel is very exciting' (Mail On Sunday)
Unpredictable...well-told and complicated story (New York Times) --This text refers to the Audio Cassette edition.

Although, at times, things got a little confusing with the two main characters being known as Decker the book was very good. However much you think you know who the 'baddie' is you can never be too sure and it just means that you will just spend your whole weekend reading and not doing much else.
Roll on the next one!!!
But it is still a well-written and entertaining read.
Cindy can be impetuous and brattish, but she also has some good qualities, for example note
The love she has for her younger half-sister, Hannah.
Cindy has a lot of growing up to do!
I like the way she skillfully weaves the religious family life of Peter and Rina's family into the
In this one we see how observation of Shabbos (the Jewish Sabbath) is a beautiful and welcome respite from
the chaotic and amoral world outside.
Overall, entertaining , and flows easily.
There are however some loose ends left undone , for example we never find out who it was that was behind the attack on Rina in the park.
It is also better to begin the Decker/Lazarus series with one of Faye Kellerman's earlier novels.
Back Cover Blurb:
It began with a policewoman's sixth sense. Someone is watching her. Then, after the break-in and the midnight car pursuit, she knows. Someone wants to frighten her. Someone wants to hurt her.
As an inexperienced policewoman, daughter of one of the force's veterans, admitting what's happening feels like a confession of weakness. There seems no option for Cindy Decker but to go it alone, keeping her colleagues and family in the dark. And in a world in which someone is trying to kill you, alone is a very frightening place.....
