The lead character, Kitty, is a great character although she does seem to be a Jack/Jill of all trades. She's going to be an apprentice seamstress, she's also paid to look after kids, and she's recently lost her parents.
The only part of the book I was not keen on, were the illustrations. They are very amateurish and not very nice to look at. For a book, I would have expected something much more professional looking, even if it was a children's book.
And what was the storyline with the mysterious chest and the mysterious dresses? It seemed almost like the author had two ideas for two separate books but tried to fit this mystery chest in the chimney storyline into this, and then promptly forgot about it. It just didn't seem to fit with the rest of the storyline. (Unless there's more to it included in the rest of the series - but I only bought this because of the Titanic storyline.)
This is probably best for kids, although if you're an adult reading this, it won't take much more than a couple of hours. Handy if you're between books and just want something quick and easy to read, and also if you're interested in the Titanic, like me. Hopefully I will be able to read this to my own children in the future and pass on my love of books and Titanic.
