Single player was one of the best campaigns I have played in a while.
Multiplayer is very fast paced with a high skill-ceiling. Very fun.
My only criticisms, which isn't of the game itself so much, is the population on PC is quite low (around ~3k players at peak time). This means that you don't get instant queues very often. You may have to wait a maximum of a minute.
The multiplayer is somewhat unsatisfying compared to the original Titanfall. Not only is the playerbase frighteningly low (you pretty much can't play the objective game modes), but "customisation bloat" that has plagued Call of Duty since CoD4 has made its way to Titanfall 2. Not only that, but all the mpas are terrible compared to the first game, and the action, weapons, overall balancing and especially the titans feel inferior, bland and just stale compared to the first game.
Don't get me wrong, it's a decent multiplayer and it's still signature Titanfall, which means it's got a lot going for it. But compared to the original, the multiplayer feels like a step backwards, so on that basis I can't give it 5*.
Lessons have been learned from the disappointing first game - Titanfall 2 has more mechs with plenty of personality and a short but thrilling single player mode. The levels are varied with huge set pieces and some slower puzzle elements, taking advantage of the pilot's mobility. The mech battles are heavy and brutal, and there's a few genuinely well thought out characters mixed into the cheesy plot. It's everything I wanted, albeit a bit too short.
Multiplayer is as good as the first game. There's plenty of weapons to suit everyone's tastes, and the inclusion of AI mooks mean even the more incompetent players such as myself can contribute meaningfully. Titans perhaps feel a little too flimsy in multiplayer, and the game could probably have done with a few more maps at launch.
All in all, Titanfall 2 is the best of the three big fps games on offer this christmas and shows that we don't have to settle for the same old CoD and Battlefield. The multiplayer is much more welcoming than CoD, and the singleplayer has character, which Battlefield sorely lacks.
Also this game has mechs. Big stompy mechs. Of course it's the best.
- HIGHLY RECOMMEND
To my surprise, i got drawn into the multiplayer as well, and even if the playerbase is small sometimes, the matches are fun, and offer a differrent experience than the single player campaign.
Knocked a star off for no SLI support.
