Volume Two continues the 'universe is made not of atoms; it's made of tiny stories' theme and is a collection of, literally, little thoughts and observations, accompanied by marvellous illustrations. It reminds me a lot of Gary Larson's The Far Side but, rather than it all coming out of Joseph's head (cue a new cartoon thought there!) it is a creative collaboration comprising contributors from around the world.
My favourite is "And in the morning they shook their pillows violently, hoping all the dreams they lost that night would tumble out."
Like The Far Side, some of the tiny stories are a bit dark but, as in degrees of light and shade, those that at first look the most bleak can actually be the most positive.
Tiny Stories would make a great gift at any time of the year.
* each story is groovy in its own tiny way. and they pretty much all come with a drawing.. or the picture comes with a story. SO CHILL.
* loads of funky people contributed.
I loved it and can't wait for the third installment.
It is adorable, curated by Joseph Gordon Levitt, it is a must for any fan, and for any one who just loves great art.
How it works is people send in passages they have written, or drawings, films or sound clips they have created themselves, and join together with others on the network to combine their talents and create a film, a song, a story, or, in this case, a book of short stories with gorgeous pictures to accompany them.
It is beautiful, it won't take you long to flick through it, but it is definitely something you will keep coming back to to look at again and again and at the price you really can't complain! A must for any art fan or a fan of something a little different.
It has many illustrations from wirrow and other artists. They all have as a common basis the stories. The stories that were said, came up, or stayed deep and hidden in a brain's lobe. You can watch a browsing through the book in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HeZ0Xl74j-Q or you can read my review about it here: http://ow.ly/lSRZz
Also the book arrived quickly and with no damages. I suggest that as a gift to anyone who loves stories of all kinds. We can find some really thoughtful and whimsical gems inside.
The idea is a that someone writes a story and another completes the illustration, and visa versa.
It also supports those who donate the content to make the book what it is.
