Friendship and faith are two key components of happiness, and Tinker Bell is almost bursting with excitement at the thought of sharing a glorious summer on the mainland with her fellow fairies. As soon as she and the other fairies touch down on the mainland, Tinker Bell takes her friend Vidia and heads out to search for human treasures and things in need of fixing. What she finds is a young girl named Lizzy whose father is too busy to really listen to her, who absolutely believes in fairies with all her heart, and who desperately needs a friend. Lizzy creates a fairy haven that Tinker Bell simply can't resist, and, thanks in part to a prank by Vidia, Tinker Bell ends up getting captured by Lizzy. What begins as imprisonment against Tinker Bell's will soon blossoms into a friendship and a fix-it project for Tinker Bell that's unlike any she's ever attempted. Meanwhile, Vidia and the other fairies embark upon an elaborate and extremely dangerous plan to save Tinker Bell. The question is, can Tinker Bell improve Lizzy's life without jeopardizing the entire fairy world? Unlike the two previous Tinker Bell films, this film takes place almost exclusively in the human world--kind of a return to the original Peter Pan concept. What remains the same are the striking clarity and saturated colors of the film, Tinker Bell's unbridled enthusiasm and optimism, and her innate sense of how to make things better. Lauren Mote voices Lizzy, Michael Sheen voices her father Dr. Griffiths, and both join the talented cast that once again includes Mae Whitman, Kristin Chenoweth, Jesse McCartney, Raven-Symoné, and Pamela Adlon. Bonus features include deleted scenes, the "How to Believe" music video featuring Bridgit Mendler, a fairy trivia game, and footage of a fairy house design contest at Epcot Center. This a stunningly well made film with beautifully created animation, it brings alive any little persons dream of meeting and becoming friends with Tinkerbell. As a dad watching this with my 3 year old little girl, it was magical! This is essentially a father and daughter story that reminds us how important it is to spend precious time with our little ones and to keep imagination, magic and wonder alive... this DVD is a lovely place to start.
Not all BluRay versions of films are done that well - believe it or not. But this Disney version is awesome. The colours are spectacular - I see things I never saw from the DVD version and the sound is truly a joy played through my PS3 and sound system.
Again, I can hear things I never heard watching the DVD. This is how all BluRays should be made.
I can't stress enough just how amazing this BluRay looks and sounds. It is even better than at the cinema! I actually enjoy watching the film - and I'm a man!
Tinker Bell & the Great Fairy Rescue is the third installment of the Tinker Bell franchise, following Tinker Bell (2008), Tinker Bell & The Lost Treasure (2009). Unlike those direct-to-video crappy sequels in the 90s (Bambi II, Mulan II, etc), this direct-to-video transfer (MPEG-4 AVC 1080p 1.78:1 encode) is simply stunning. Colours are bright and vibrant with amazing details. One of my favourite details is how delicate the translucent fairy wings appear. Each wing is see-thru, but you are able to pick out the very fine details of tiny swoops and swirls that decorate the wings. Another amazing detail is that you can see each and every tiny molecule of pixie dust as it floats through the sky. Here though each speck is visible, shining, and bright. (4.5/5)
The DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio accompanying this release is a great complement to the stunning visuals. Like the visuals, the audio presentation relies on its attention to detail to get the job done. Directionality is spot on with sounds happening all around the listening environment as characters perform actions off screen. Surrounds come alive during the rainstorm as raindrops permeate the soundfield. Panning effects are smooth and inviting as fairies zoom across the screen with a tiny tinkling sound following them, or as an old-time car rumbles along a dirt road that stretches across the screen. Dialogue is perfectly clear. The soundfield remains fairly immersive throughout. (4/5)
Tinker Bell and the Fairy Rescue has stunning visuals with fantastic sound that captures the life and times of Tinker Bell and her friends. This third installment keeps the same fun spirit that the first two had.Read more ›
