Bought this a short while ago and the setup was not as simple as I expected, the documentation is not very clear. Tried to use with Phillips Low Energy bulbs greater than 20W as described in the documentation and it just flickers even when the light is not switched on. Replaced the bulb with a conventional one and it seemed to work ok. The bulb eventually blew and then when I replaced with another conventional buld the Auto mode now does not work. Spoke to Time Guards Tech Support and they said the circuitry on board must have suffered an overload and is damaged and I must now puchase another one. They do not offer any circuitry protection in this device. They advise via phone that they know of two bulb manaufacures who include some inrush current limitation, Phillips being one of them. Really poor design and I would strong advise anybody who reads this not to bother with this product or any other product from this manufacturer. In todays environment we expect these products to be able to deal with this situation day in day out. This product is absolutely crap and I'll be asking for a replacement and in the future I will avoid this manufacturer all together.

We first purchased one of these in 2001 and it lasted around 10 years before it wore out. Since then we have worked our way through 3 which were all fine until a bulb blew. This fused the circuit and as the switch is not fused, it also fused the switch and so it had to be replaced. No problem with getting our money back, but Electrician's costs still to be paid!
This seems to be a recurrent problem which also affects other similar models so we have now opted for an alternative solution with a battery-operated timer that fits over an ordinary light switch.
We would not buy this model again as the manufacturing process has obviously changed since we purchased our first timer!

Works OK - even with energy saving bulbs. I found it difficult to wire as part of a two switch circuit, but succeeded in the end.

Fitted in 2 minutes, easy to set, up works well with 4 low watt bulbs (44 watt total)The instuctions warn not to be used with low wattage bulbs but I found works fine with 4 x 11 watt bulbs.Highly recommend

Allows you to programme the light to switch on and off at different times on different days. I used to do this with a lamp plugged into a timer, but this is much more convenient as it serves as a normal light switch, replacing the original, and does not need setting up every time. You can also easily override it just by pressing it to switch the light on and off, without interfering with the programme settings. Installing it in place of a single switch is fairly straightforward, although the instructions are not quite clear enough, being just a set of diagrams. Using on a two-way switch circuit is more complicated and you may need to phone for advice (phone number on the website). Overall I am pleased and would recommend it.

I have had a timer of this type, from the same manufacturer, which gave me 15+ tears of service until it finally gave up the ghost. This uprated type has the addition of a replaceable fuse, a great improvement and well worth the money.

The timer was purchased and installed, within 72hrs the timer had lost the in-putted programme. The timer then continued to reset its self and then it finally failed. No auto or manual operation was possible.

Bought this product to replace one from B&Q that failed after three months. It's the same as the one that the B&Q one replaced (but branded differently) and that lasted 12 years.

Fitting on a two-way switched system may be a bit difficult unless you know what you're doing. Single switch systems should be easy.

It's easy to program and works as a manual switch as well.

Only gripe is that is does not work with CFL even though the box says "it will work with most CFLs". Even so a good security investment.
